 Lufeh logolbum Cover

English Version

 Lufeh

Compuso cuatro de las canciones del álbum: “Find my Way”, “My World”, “Escape” y “The Edge”.

Lufeh - En realidad, el primer video lanzado fue "Find my Way".

¡Solo busca Lufehband! ¡Y compártelo con todos tus amigos!

MiM - I´ve read that LUFEH is a sum of Brazilian and American musicians. How was it possible to do this mix? Who are the Brazilians and who are the Americans?

Lufeh - All of the musicians, Duca (bass), Gera (keys), Teo (guitar), and Lufeh (drums), are Brazilians whose musical paths have crossed at one point or another in the past 25 years. Dennis Atlas, our vocalist, is the only American that joined the team recently. Lufeh, like Dennis, lives in LA, but on his last trip to Brazil, he met up with the other three where we brainstormed most of the songs. Gera created the vocal lines and the song structure. After that, most of the communication and decisions were made through Wattsapp and Wetransfer. two weeks prior to the recording, the band got together at Lufeh’s house in L.A. where they lived and breathed the songs, finalizing all the details before the recording day. It was an intense and very exciting time!

MiM - Some basic listener could say the band has a strong Dream Theater influence, but I think there is more than this in LUFEH, am I right? Maybe there is some part of Kansas, or some part of another American progressive band, or Brazilian like Angra, so you will tell?

Atlas - There’s a heavy influence from Dream Theater. Obviously, we all love a lot of different bands, and we just write and sing from the heart so it’s impossible to say where it all comes from... it all stems from our emotions of some kind and our musical DNA will always include pieces of the music we grew up on and choose to consume. As for me, Dennis Atlas, Dream Theater is my favorite band, as is Styx, and closely followed by many other progressive bands including Kansas, Queen, Symphony X, ELP, as well as other genres of artists from jazz-like Return to Forever, to pop-metal like Thousand Foot Krutch.

MiM - How did you get the singer Dennis Atlas? He has a good voice and vocal technique. I’ve read that he arrived when the old singer goes away.

Lufeh - Atlas was introduced to Lufeh by a friend four weeks before the recording date, January 21st, 2020. The first option we had in mind as a vocalist jumped ship at the last minute, and we had to scramble to find a replacement. Dennis fit like a glove in this project. His voice, personality, and performance style fit perfectly with the rest of us.

MiM - Another interesting musician even when I consider all of you interesting musician, (please don’t be jealous), is Teo Dornellas. Does he write his own guitar riff and solos?

Lufeh - Yes, he creates all his own riffs and solos, but the songs were composed as a collaboration with the band. He composed four of the songs in the album: “Find my Way”, “My World”, “Escape”, and “The Edge”.

MiM - By the way, is the bass player Duca Tambasco who is the most jazz lover in the band? I ask because some of his bass lines are complex.

Tambasco - First of all, thank you for the compliment, regarding the complexity of my bass lines. I do like jazz, but not exclusively. I’ve always enjoyed all music styles, like folk, jazz, progressive rock especially, and I have always enjoyed the music that is complex, in harmony and rhythm, this has always been a matter of research for me. For example, I have always enjoyed researching different bands around the world to see how cultures approach the same themes, such as rock. Once in a while, you might find an African band that has an interpretation of Jazz that is unique to their context, their culture, or an Asian band, or the diversity of rhythms of Indian music. This has always been a fun thing for me to do, looking for different expressions of rock in different cultures, so maybe, for this reason, I might sound jazzy, as you mentioned. Thank you one more time!

MiM – It´s logical to think that the band name was taken by the name of the drummer Lufeh Batera,  or maybe the drummer's name is not Lufeh Batera and he is using a nickname? Will you explain to me this?

Lufeh - Originally, “Luggage Falling Down” was supposed to be a solo project of the drummer, Lufeh Batera, who invited his good friends to help him with the composition and arrangements of the songs. During this whole process, we soon realized that this was a band and not a solo project anymore, so we decided to turn it into “Lufeh, the band”. The name was a matter of keeping some of the logo and marketing materials we already had, and all agreed that “Lufeh” was a unique name that would be easily accepted as a band, worldwide. “Lufeh” is actually the drummer’s nickname, a junction of his first and middle name “Luis Fernando”.

MiM - The band took “The Edge” to record a video. Why this song was chosen? Is there another song that you did a video?

Lufeh - Actually, the first video released was “Find my Way”. On the day of the recording, we actually recorded all eight songs in the video as well. They will be released one by one every two weeks on our YouTube channel, but the whole album is already available in all media platforms such as Spotify, iTunes music etc. We wanted the videos to look like we were performing on a live stage, to a live audience - we thought this would showcase our performance energy better, and we are very proud of the result. Our good friend videographer and Director of photography, Ivan Copelli, exceeded our expectations and the final product is not only musically excellent but also a feast to the eyes.

MiM - There are many different songs in this Cd, for example, “Find my way”, is a kind of a song maybe we expect from a progressive band, but “Trial of Escapade” is more jazz mood. Could you tell me more about this song?

Tambasco –“Trial of Escapade” is a song that I wrote that challenged me to get out of my comfort zone, as a rock composer. I have seen so many new, cool bands that mix sophisticated harmonies with the intensity and rhythmic complexity of prog metal. So, when Lufeh invited me to be part of this project, I found myself wanting to challenge my compositions to reinvent myself and leave my comfort zone. This is not just my merit, this is about all of us because sometimes I had an idea for a song, from harmony to rhythm and Gera would complement the idea and Lufeh would do the same with the rhythmic side of it. So, even if it was conceived by me, and I have this jazzy mood, we still blend our ideas to come out with the final product. If it was just my composition, it would not have been such a rich song, thanks to my bandmates.

MiM - I’ve read all the lyrics was written by Josh Kim. Who is he?

Lufeh - Josh Kim is a friend, a talented guitar player, who has a special way with lyric writing. Since English is not our first language, we reached out to him to help us write the lyrics, and he did so with excellence.

MiM - Is there anything else would you like to say?

Lufeh - We are very pleased and proud of the final result of our album. We appreciate the kind words about it, it means a lot to us. Hopefully, we will perform live in Spain one day! Until then, we would love for your audience to check our album “Luggage Falling Down” on all the media platforms, check out our website www.lufehband.com and follow us on all the social media, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.
