¡Rock N Roll absolutamente original y auténtico!
Jordan Taylor Moed, cantante y cofundador de la banda americana The Hungry and Dangerous, habla con Giorgio Pinna sobre la formación, las grabaciones y las nuevas canciones. Su próximo disco saldrá con el sello italiano Diotima Records. Se autodefinen "The Vagabonds of Rock and Roll" y entre medias puedes verlos en video.
GP - ¿Qué significa tu banda?
HaD - The Hungry & Dangerous es una declaración, una declaración de perseverancia y fidelidad a quien realmente eres. Somos una banda dedicada a todos los que viven para ver sus sueños convertirse en realidad y necesitan la inspiración para seguir adelante.
GP -¿Por qué elegiste ese nombre?
HaD -¡El nombre Hungry & Dangerous vino de los fans! GP -¿Por qué decidiste formar la banda?
HaD - Matt era parte de mi proyecto en solitario y teníamos discusiones cuando llegaba el momento, y si se sentía bien, queríamos intentar hacer algo diferente de lo que estaba haciendo como solista. Con el nuevo single, a los fans les encantó el nombre y básicamente pensaban que ya estábamos formando un nuevo proyecto, fue algo natural simplemente seguir este camino a medida que se desarrollaba. GP -¿Cómo surgió la idea?
HaD - La idea surgió de lo que ya estábamos haciendo con mi proyecto en solitario, simplemente movimos los fundamentos a otro nombre, por así decirlo. Pero dicho esto, esta banda es una nueva aventura, así que a medida que se desarrolle el camino, habrá muchas cosas que nos diferenciarán de los demás y de lo que estábamos haciendo anteriormente.

GP -¿Tu próximo álbum? ¿Cómo crees que debería ser recibido por los fans?
HaD - Creo que nuestros fans y futuros fans deberían escuchar este disco con la mente clara. Esta banda no se parece a nada que hayamos hecho y creo que los fans de nuestros otros proyectos pueden pensar que esas bandas pueden tener alguna influencia en el sonido. Me gustaría que los fans escucharan esto y lo vieran como una nueva banda original que está separada de todo lo que hemos hecho.
GP -¿Qué tipo de experiencia auditiva están tratando de brindar a los fanáticos con este sencillo y la nueva música por venir?
HaD - Queremos darles a nuestros fans esperanza en el Rock N Roll nuevamente. Nuestro objetivo es ser auténticos y fieles a este género mientras allanamos nuestro camino. Queremos que las personas se sientan inspiradas cuando nos escuchen y, sin importar lo que puedan estar pasando en la vida, las cosas mejoran y siempre hay una nueva historia esperando ser escrita.
GP -¿Cómo es el proceso de escritura de la banda?
HaD - El proceso de escritura es realmente único en este proyecto. Entonces, para este primer disco, le llevé a Matt con estas canciones que había escrito a lo largo de los años y debo mencionar que esto fue durante el Covid. Grabando en casa y conectándonos online fue lo que posible este disco, y tener a nuestros buenos amigos Tristan Roberts y Justin Gregg, quienes fueron lo suficientemente geniales como para permitirnos usar cosas adicionales con ellos. Matt y nuestro bajista recientemente anunciado Dan Morin aportan mucho a la música y ni siquiera hemos aprovechado todo su potencial.

GP -¿Qué puede esperar la gente en vivo de tu banda en comparación con otras bandas?
HaD - Nuestro show en vivo es único. Todos los miembros de nuestra banda han crecido con los principios de los íconos del rock y han pasado años estudiándolos. HaD - Soy el compositor principal de este proyecto, pero los otros chicos participarán en el proceso de escritura y traerán canciones a la mesa. Escribo mucho sobre la base de la experiencia personal, pero me gusta expresar esas experiencias personales a través de ideas y conceptos. Mantiene la escritura emocionante, y vivo por esta cita como escritor que un amigo mío me dijo una vez y es “Una canción sabe cómo quiere escribirse, somos solo los caminos que le permiten llegar a la realidad”. Al final del día, aunque soy el principal compositor de este proyecto, los chicos están involucrados en el proceso de escritura y hacen que las canciones fructifiquen.
GP -¿Quieres lanzar un álbum completo?
HaD - Ya ha salido el single de debut que es “The Hungry & Dangerous”, y planeamos tener un single más antes de lanzarlo completo, en este momento estamos en el proceso de mezcla del álbum, cuando sea el momento, ¡todos lo oirán!
GP -¿Cómo afecta la música a la letra y viceversa?
HaD - La música es muy enérgica y edificante e intentamos igualar esa intensidad con las letras. No puedes escribir una canción como “The Hungry & Dangerous” y que no te golpee en la boca musicalmente, y que no te haga gritar las cuerdas vocales. Entonces, sean cuales sean las vibraciones en la canción dada, nuestro objetivo es que sientas todos los sentidos de esas palabras.
GP -¿Cómo describirías la evolución del sonido de la banda? Nombra las 5 principales influencias de la banda. ¿Qué géneros de rock te influyen más como grupo?
HaD - El sonido de la banda es original, sin disculpas, auténticas bolas de rock n roll. Cada miembro de la banda podría darte un millón de influencias, pero yo diría que como banda, por nombrar algunas influencias en su conjunto, diría que bandas como Van Halen, Crashdiet, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard y The Struts. Como puedes ver, estamos muy influenciados por la música rock icónica, pero también tenemos influencias en el heavy metal, el rock de los 50, el hard rock moderno y mucho más. Estamos en todo el espectro en lo que respecta a nuestras influencias, lo que debería decir significa que nunca seremos una banda que esté pegada a un subgénero. Queremos ser libres de escribir lo que es natural, y algunas canciones pueden ser más pesadas y otras más ligeras. Es por eso que nos llamamos a nosotros mismos "Los vagabundos del Rock N Roll" porque realmente no nos limitamos a un solo género, ¡estamos en todas partes, hombre!
GP -¿Cuál es el significado de tu sencillo? ¿Los hambrientos y peligrosos? Describe la canción desde el punto de vista del significado de la letra y el sonido.
HaD – “The Hungry & Dangerous” es un grito de guerra para las personas que se sienten derribadas, o todo lo contrario, cargadas y listas para conquistar el mundo. La idea de la canción es que, pase lo que pase, seguir adelante y seguir luchando por tus sueños. Como dije en una pregunta anterior, queremos inspirar a la gente y dar esperanza, así que con esta canción, mi esperanza era que la gente la escuchara y dijera “la vida puede ser difícil en este momento y me está costando todo no darme por vencido con mis sueños, pero hay otros como yo y tenemos que mantenernos unidos mientras hacemos realidad estos sueños”. La música la había empezado a escribir hace años. cuando vivía en Filadelfia, y es extraño porque nunca toqué la canción además de hacerla como calentamiento para los shows en vivo de otras bandas. Siempre sentí que cuando llegara el momento, esta canción vería la luz del día, y no fue hasta el Covid cuando estaba sentado en mi estudio que descubrí la demo original de esta canción. En este punto no la había escuchado en años y se me puso la piel de gallina, así que fue cuando supe que era hora de que esta canción cobrara vida.
GP - Tu nuevo single “Insomniacs” acaba de salir, ¿podrías contarnos un poco sobre eso?
HaD - “The Hungry & Dangerous lanza un nuevo y monstruoso single titulado “Insomniacs”. El nuevo single de la próxima banda de rock explora un lado más oscuro pero aún himno de la banda. Desde las letras que están fuertemente impulsadas al estilo de Alice Cooper, hasta los solos de guitarra de alto octanaje y la fusión de capas, hasta la batería que te dan ganas de gritar como si estuvieras con 10,000 personas en una arena. “Insomniacs” explora un culto como la sociedad de personas que lidian con el insomnio y las batallas que libran todas las noches cuando el reloj marca las 12. Jordan Taylor Moed, the singer, and co-founder of The Hungry and Dangerous speaks to Giorgio Pinna about the band, the recordings, and new songs. Its new CD will be released via Diotima Records.
GP - What does your band mean?
HaD - The Hungry & Dangerous is a statement, a statement of being perseverant and staying true to who you really are. We are a band for everyone who lives to see their dreams become realities and need the inspiration to keep going!
GP - Why that band name?
HaD - The Hungry & Dangerous name came from the fans! As we were getting ready to release my new solo single, we announced the song alongside new photos of myself and Matt and we just started getting messages from fans of ours about how they couldn't wait to see and hear the new band. We sat there and thought to ourselves, “huh, maybe they’re onto something with this, and after some serious discussions as a group, we announced the band during my interview with Andy Herrin on 102.9 The Buzz Nashville's Rock Station on the weekend of the single release.
GP - Why did you form?
HaD - So Matt was a part of my solo project, and we would have discussions when the time came, and if it felt right, we wanted to try doing something separate from what I was doing as a solo artist. With the new single that came out, the fans loving the name, and basically thinking we were already forming a new project, it felt natural to just follow this path as it was unfolding. So we really decided to form because fans were into it and everything was falling into place as we were walking the path.
GP - How did the idea come to be?
HaD - The Idea came to be from what we were already doing with my solo project, we just essentially moved the fundamentals to another name so to speak. But having said that, this band is a new adventure so as the path unfolds, there are going to be a lot of things that will set us apart from everyone else and what we were previously doing.
GP - How would you describe your sound in five words?
HaD - Absolutely original, authentic Rock N Roll!
GP - Your upcoming album? How do think it should be received by fans?
HaD - I think our fans and future fans should listen to this record with a clear mind. This band isn't like anything else we have done and I feel fans of our other projects may think that those bands may have some influence on the sound. I would like fans to hear this and see this as a new original band that's separate from anything we've ever done.
GP - What kind of listening experience are trying to give fans with this single and new music to come?
HaD - We want to give our fans hope in Rock N Roll again. Our goal is to be as authentic and true to this genre as possible while paving our path. We want people to feel inspired when they hear us and no matter what they may be going through in life, it does get better and there's always a new story waiting to be written.
GP - How is the writing process for the band?
HaD - The writing process is really unique with this project. So for this first record, I came to Matt with these songs that I had written over the years and I should mention this was during Covid. Home recording and facetime calls really made this record possible and having our good friends Tristan Roberts and Justin Gregg who were awesome enough to allow us to track additional things with them really brought this album together. Matt and our newly announced bassist Dan Morin bring some much to the table and we haven't even tapped its full potential.
GP - Are any of the band members known on the local scene from any other bands?
HaD - People know me from my solo stuff and as well my work in the band Suspicious Minds, Matt has done some band stuff but is more well known for his session musician stuff with Famous Records. Dan is also a part of Suspicious Minds with me as well.
GP - What can people expect live from your band compared to other bands?
HaD - Our live show is one of a kind. All of our band members have grown up on the principles of rock icons and spent years studying them. The live show aspect is one of the most important parts to us and we haven't had the chance to perform because of co-vid, but when the time comes, we want to leave fans clamoring for more! If anyone has seen us in other bands perform before, then they know it's gonna be insane!
GP - Where do your lyrics come from? What inspires your writing? Are the songs a collaborative effort? Does the band have a main songwriter?
HaD - So I am the main songwriter in this project, but the other guys will/do have involvement in the writing process and do bring songs to the table. I write a lot from personal experience, but I like to express those personal experiences through ideas and concepts. It keeps the writing exciting, and I live by this quote as a writer that a friend of mine once told me and it's “A song knows how it wants to be written, we're just the vessels that allow it to reality”. At the end of the day, although I am the main songwriter of this project, the guys are involved in the writing process and bring the songs to fruition.
GP - When are you planning to release an entire album?
HaD - So as of now the debut single is out which is The Hungry & Dangerous, and we do plan on having one more single out before we release the entire thing, at the moment we are in the mixing process of the album, when the time is the right tho, you will all hear it!
GP - How does the music affect the lyrics and vice versa?
HaD - The music is very energetic and uplifting and we try to match that intensity with the lyrics. You can't write a song like The Hungry & Dangerous and have it not punch you right in the mouth musically, and it not have you screaming your vocal cords out of your throat. So whatever the vibes may be in the given song, our goal is for you to feel every sense of those words.
GP - How would you describe the evolution of the band’s sound? Name the Top 5 band influences of the band. What rock genres influence you as a band the most?
HaD - The band's sound is original, unapologetic, authentic balls to the wall rock n roll. Every band member could give you a million influences, but I would say as a band to name a few influences as a whole, I would say bands like Van Halen, Crashdiet, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, and The Struts. As you can tell we are very influenced by iconic rock music, but we also have influences in heavy metal, 50s rock, modern hard rock and so much more. We’re all over the spectrum when it comes to our influences, which I should say means we will not ever be a band that is stuck to a sub-genre. We wanna be free to write what's natural, and some songs may be heavier and some may be lighter. That’s why we call ourselves “The Vagabonds Of Rock N Roll” because we truly don't just stick to one genre, we're everywhere man!
GP - What’s the meaning behind your single; The Hungry & Dangerous? Describe the track in full from the point of view of the meaning of the lyric and sound.
HaD - The Hungry & Dangerous is a rallying cry to people who feel knocked down, or, the complete opposite on fire and ready to take on the world. The idea of the song is to no matter what, keep moving forward and keep fighting for your dreams. Like I had said in an earlier question, we wanna inspire people and give hope, so with this song, my hope was for people to hear it and say “life may be hard right now and it's taking everything for me not to give up on my dreams, but there are others like me out there and we need to stick together as we make these dreams realities.” The music I had started writing years ago when I lived in Philadelphia, and it’s weird because I never touched the song besides playing it as a warm-up for live shows in other bands. I always felt when the time came, this song would see the light of day, and it wasn't til covid when I was sitting in my studio one day when I had unearthed the original demo of this song. At this point, I hadn't heard in years and it left me with goosebumps so that's when I knew it was time for this song to come alive.
GP - Your new single “Insomniacs” just came out, could you tell us a little bit about that?
HaD -The Hungry & Dangerous unleash a monstrous new single entitled “Insomniacs”. The new single from the upcoming rock band explores a darker yet still anthemic side of the band. From the lyrics that are heavily driven in an Alice Cooper fashion to the high octane and face-melting guitar solos, to pounding drums that make you wanna scream hey with 10,000 people in an arena. “Insomniacs” explores a cult-like society of people who deal with insomnia and the battles that they fight every night when the clock strikes 12. Whether you a fellow insomniac or just enjoy a catchy chorus that gets stuck in your head, everyone is welcome to join the cult of insomniacs.
