English Version

MiM: "Running Out of Time" (ROAR, 2025) tiene un sonido espectacular.

MiM: En "Running Out of Time" siento una fuerte influencia de artistas como Doro Pesch.

EG: Esperamos que disfruten con "Running out of Time".

For the second time, the band FRONT ROW WARRIORS, from Stuttgart, Germany, embarks on their own Melodic Metal adventure with their new album "Running Out of Time," due out July 11th via ROAR. Founded in 2019, the melodic metal band already made a splash in 2023 with their debut, "Wheel of Fortune," receiving numerous critical acclaim. The German Rock and Pop Musicians Association even named it "Hard Rock Album of the Year 2023." This is an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to chat with Elkie Gee, the band's vocalist, to learn all about the band's new album.

MiM: Tell me about the band's beginnings? How did the idea of forming the band come about? I'd like to know if the musicians in the band's lineup are in a band for the first time or if they've been in other bands?

EG: Jay G, our drummer (formerly Sharon), and I wanted to make music again in a similar style to our former bands. With my former Band Ampyre, I had made very beautiful melodic hard rock/metal, and we wanted to build on that. In response to an ad, Romanian guitarist Sorin Badin got in touch, and we were immediately impressed by his virtuosity. We have quite a few musicians in our circle of friends, so we found Timo Michels, bass (formerly Pump), and Stef-Binnig Gollub, guitar, from Septagon, to join us. Richie Seibel, who also plays keys for Them and Ivanhoe. Since February 2024, guitarist Dominik Barth, our youngster, has replaced Sorin Badin, who was no longer able to perform live for family reasons. So it's clear that we all have a little musical experience. :)

MiM: "Running Out of Time" (ROAR, 2025) has a spectacular sound. Production is impeccable. What was the recording and production process like? What can you tell me about this album?

Front Row Warriors cd Front Text 1500EG: Thank you for your kind words, I'm very happy to hear that. "Running out of time" was once again in the hands of Achim Köhler,(Primal Fear, Amon Amarth, Brainstorm)  who also produced our debut album. He is known for his great sound and is very pleasant to work with because he is a true professional and knows exactly how we should sound. This time, we decided not to do any pre-production. We wrote and rehearsed most of the songs in the rehearsal room. Then the guys recorded everything in their home recording studios. I recorded my vocals and backing vocals in Michael Bormans studio, who did a great job again, just like on the first album, and was there to help me with advice and support. As I said, AchimKöhler did the mixing and mastering. The main theme of the album is time. Time is what determines all of our lives, and unfortunately, we usually have too little of it to live, love, and find our passion. However, the album also addresses socially critical issues that deal with global problems and the resulting wars.

MiM: In "Running Out of Time", I feel a strong influence from artists like Doro Pesch. What can you tell me about that? What influences does the band have when composing new material?

EG; That´s a tough one…..We don't really orient ourselves towards other bands, but if I had to name some, I would say bands like Pretty Maids or Heart, but it's hard to say.

MiM: The song "FRONT ROW WARRIORS" is a declaration of the band's principles. Is that correct?

EG; In the broadest sense, it's the story of how FRW came to be. Even as a little girl, I wanted to have a band of good friends around me and conquer the stage, a bit like in a fairy tale. And I was indeed a shy, insecure thing back then, so my music helped me through all the ups and downs. There were a few people who encouraged me to start again, and I'm lucky that my boys and I are pursuing a common goal. The name is symbolic of the people who stand in the front row at concerts and cheer on their heroes, just as we all often do ourselves. We are all passionate concertgoers.

MiM: Elkie Gee, you have an incredible voice! Do you have an academic background or is it empirical?

EG: Well, I had singing lessons for several years and also sang in choirs for a while. The rest I taught myself, so to speak. I spent a lot of time singing along to songs by all kinds of bands, but I love the voice of Geoff Tate. His expression and attitude still fascinate me today. As a fan of bands like Helloween, TNT, and Riot, I naturally always wanted to master the head voice, and I worked hard at it.

MiM: Could we define the band's sound, or are they a restless band that likes to innovate and explore new possibilities?

EG: I think that melodic metal and hard rock form the basic framework of FRW. Our new guitarist Dominik has brought a breath of fresh air and also some harder guitar work, which I personally like very much. We always play around with the styles a little and thus ensure a certain amount of variety.

MiM: What's the creative process like in the band when it comes to composing, structuring, and deciding which songs or compositions will be included in an album? Is it a collaborative process among everyone, or does it fall to one or two people?

EG; It varies greatly. Since everyone is involved in the songwriting process, it can be challenging to satisfy everyone. However, it is usually clear quite quickly whether an idea will be pursued or whether the song will be put aside and needs more time to mature. We definitely discussed the song selection extensively, including whether or not to include ballads.

MiM: What plans do you have for promoting this album? Are there any concerts or tours scheduled for this year?

EG: On the release day, we will hold a large meet and greet at RV Bang in Balingen, which is the successor festival to the former Bang Your Head, where we played at its premiere last year. In the fall, we have four headlining shows at festivals, in January we are going to Switzerland for Ice Rock, and a few other things are still in the planning. We will also release two digital singles in the fall, which will certainly be a big surprise.

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers.

EG: We hope you enjoy “Running out of Time”.Please take every opportunity to go to concerts and see smaller bands. Our music is what unites us all and is always there for us, no matter how difficult things get sometimes. Have a wonderful hot rocking summer.
