GDR: ¡Ciao Raúl! Este es Max, el cofundador y director de arte de Go Down Records.
MiM: 20 años ahora! ¡Felicidades! ¿Cómo fueron esos inicios? ¿Cómo surge la idea de crear el sello? ¿Por qué especializarse en la escena de psych rock, garage rock, sludge y Rock'n'roll?
GDR: ¡Gracias! ¡Mi etiqueta es realmente "adulta" en este punto! ;)
Se fundó para autoeditar mis primeros álbumes de la banda de fumetas OJM en 2003 cuando tenía unos 20 años. El bricolaje era bastante común en esos tiempos. Conocí a Leonardo Cola, que también estaba involucrado en la música independiente y tenía la energía y el entusiasmo para fundar Go Down Records conmigo. Nos especializamos en esos géneros musicales porque amamos los sonidos poderosos y las actitudes poco convencionales. La mayoría de la gente no creía que pudiera surgir y crecer una escena italiana. Falta de audacia en un ambiente muy extranjero, en mi opinión.
MiM: ¿Cuántas bandas componen el catálogo del sello hoy? ¿Cuál sería el método o procedimiento que tendría que utilizar una banda interesada en firmar con Go Down Records?
GDR: Lanzamos más de cien bandas. Mi mejor manera de explorar es a través de presentaciones en vivo o sugerencias de mi equipo y mi red. Las presentaciones en línea no son suficientes. Los músicos deben tener una fuerte motivación, un enfoque profesional, disposición para hacer giras y sinergia con las otras bandas en nuestra lista. No estamos tratando de crear estrellas de rock; creemos en el poder de la comunidad y en nuestra reputación de larga data.
MiM: ¿De dónde viene el nombre del sello? ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre Go Down Records?
GDR: El nombre es una interpretación libre del concepto de caza de talentos "clandestina". La misión siempre ha sido crear una familia de músicos que disfruten tocar en vivo y hacer música con total libertad creativa.
MiM: ¿Qué bandas del catálogo del sello recomendarías escuchar a los lectores de Made in Metal?
GDR: Recomiendo Bleeding Eyes, ALiX, Ananda Mida, Beesus, Humulus, Maya Mountains, OJM, Prehistoric Pigs, Quiet Confusion, Small Jackets y The Devils.

GDR: Somos almas de la vieja escuela, y la rápida transición a la música digital ha sido difícil para los amantes del vinilo como nosotros. No nos desanimamos y ahora las plataformas digitales son una buena manera de llegar a una audiencia global y aumentar los oyentes. Por eso valoro positivamente nuestro esfuerzo, nuestra terquedad y nuestra capacidad de desarrollo.

MiM: Hello!! My name is Raúl Cardona, and it is a privilege to talk with you.
GDR: Ciao Raúl! This is Max, the co-founder and Art Director of Go Down Records.
MiM: 20 years now! Congratulations! How were those beginnings? How did the idea of creating the label come about? Why specialize in the psych rock, garage rock, sludge, and Rock'n'roll scene?
GDR: Thank you! My label is really "adult" at this point! ;)
It was founded to self-release my first stoner band OJM albums in 2003 when I was about 20 Y.O. The DIY was pretty much common in those times. I met Leonardo Cola who was also involved in independent music and had the energy and enthusiasm to co-found Go Down Records with me. We specialized in those music genres because we love powerful sounds and unconventional attitudes. Most people didn’t believe an Italian scene could emerge and grow. Lack of audacity in a very foreign-oriented background, in my opinion.
MiM: How many bands make up the label's catalog today? What would be the method or procedure that a band interested in signing with Go Down Records would have to use?
GDR: We released more than one hundred bands. My best way to scout is through live performances or suggestions from my team and my network. Online submissions are not enough. Musicians must have strong motivation, a professional approach, a willingness to tour, and synergy with the other bands on our roster. We are not trying to create rock stars; we believe in the power of the community and our long-standing reputation.
MiM: Where does the name of the label come from? What is the concept behind the name Go Down Records?
GDR: The name is a free interpretation of the concept of "underground" talent hunting. The mission has always been to create a family of musicians who enjoy playing live and making music with full creative freedom.
MiM: Which bands from the label's catalog would you recommend to Made in Metal readers to listen to?
GDR: I recommend Bleeding Eyes, ALiX, Ananda Mida, Beesus, Humulus, Maya Mountains, OJM, Prehistoric Pigs, Quiet Confusion, Small Jackets, and The Devils.
MiM: Looking back, how would you rate the work in all these years?
GDR: We are old-school souls, and the fast transition to digital music has been hard for vinyl lovers like us. We didn't get discouraged, and now digital platforms are a good way to reach a global audience and increase listeners. That’s why I rate our efforts, our stubbornness, and our development skills positively.
MiM: What does a record label like Go Down Records offer to the bands that are part of its catalog?
GDR: We offer the chance to draw attention within the independent scene, to release on the beloved physical media, and to tour clubs and festivals in Italy and Europe.
