Aprendí a tocar (y aun estoy aprendiendo) totalmente por mí mismo, y nunca he tomado lecciones o algo similar.

An End to Tyranny Part II)”?

No te decepcionaras.

D – Me gustaría mucho.

Stay epic! \m/

MM - My first question is about a deep doubt I have man, are you really 17 years old? How did you write all these songs on the album?
D - Haha yes I am! The album is something I have worked on for the last year and a half or so. With the exception of the orchestral tracks I did, the writing process for me usually just starts out with a riff I came up with. From there I usually will start writing other riffs and melodies to go with it until I have the skeleton of a full song structured. After that, I just more or less “load all the other shit on top of it” as I say haha. So from there I write drums, finish up leads/solos, bass, orchestrations, and the lyrics come later. This writing process has just come naturally to me and I feel it works really efficiently and effectively.

MM - And this is not all. Where did you learn to play guitar? You are quite the shredder. Who inspires you?
D - Haha thanks man! I’m more or less a self taught guitar player, I learned to play (and still learn) totally on my own, and I’ve never really taken lessons or anything. However though I did do a summer program at Berklee College of Music a few years back. It wasn’t a long program, but I got offered to do it on scholarship so I couldn’t say no to doing such a thing! I haven’t looked into any formal training since; the internet is my guitar teacher you could say ;) I’m always working on learning something new.

MM – What are your influences when you can write a 14 and half minute track “Cathartic Quest (An End to Tyranny Part II)”?
D - Truthfully nothing much different from the rest of the songs on the album, I just wanted to have at least one track that was really long and complex, and could really be an effective climax to the album as it’s right in the middle of it. But some bands to name a few that had a lot of influence on this track would be Abigail Williams, Dissection, Moonsorrow, Watain, Epica, Wintersun, Iced Earth, etc. It was really all over the map for me!

MM - You signed a deal with Maple Metal Records to release Prosperous Visions. How is this going so far? Why did you choose Maple Metal Records?
D - It’s going great so far. For a while I’ve been in touch with their head guy John who’s been on the watch of the band for a bit. When he found out I was finishing up the recording of a full length we started to talk more and we signed a record deal. MMR is a really hard working label to get their bands noticed on a worldwide scale and I’m really proud to be on the same label as so many great Canadian metal bands such as Kalter and Nordheim. The promotion of the album is going great so far and I’m sure it will continue to receive positive press!

MM - You have a live band and you do shows regularly as Primalfrost. Do you intend to record as a full band in the future?
D - Absolutely. Primalfrost in the beginning was just a solo project of mine where I did all the instruments, and It’s still kind of standing like that now, even though I have a live band. The only reason it’s stayed like this is because it’s been very difficult to look for a group of devoted musicians willing to take this project into a band effort. The guys I’ve played live with are still good friends of mine but everyone’s doing their own thing and are busy with it. School, work, and not to mention their own bands! haha. I’ve always been left to be the sole guy who does all the work, hopefully that might change in the future!

MM - How was it recording the album with Thomas Ireland of Battlesoul at Icehouse Studios? Why did you choose him?
D - Thomas is a great guy to work with. In the studio he’s efficient, communicative, talented, and really worked hard and did his best to make sure we were both happy with how the album turned out. You better check out his band Battlesoul when you get the chance! You won’t be disappointed.

MM - How was it working with Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design for the artwork? He’s done work with many bands including artwork for Manowar, Korpiklaani, Tyr, and others so you must have been quite excited.
D - It was fantastic to have him do the artwork. He was very communicative and made sure the artwork was the best that it could be for the album. I was really proud to have him do the artwork considering all the big bands he has worked with!

MM - You recently opened for Moonspell, Leaves Eyes, and Atrocity in Toronto. How was the experience?
D - It was awesome! In all fairness, we were opening for bands that we aren’t that similar to musically so most of the crowd wasn’t there to see us. Regardless it was still overall a very positive response and it was a huge honour to be direct support for such big bands!

MM - What are your next steps in order to promote the CD?
D - Same things we’re doing now more or less, this is where Maple Metal Records helps us the most! On my part, lot’s of self promotion on the web of course, but also doing lots of shows! We’re doing both of those things fairly actively right now, and there aren’t any plans to stop in the near future!

MM - Do you guys plan to come to Europe in the near future?
D - I’d love for us to. Recently we actually got offered a string of European tour dates with Bonded By Blood and Hirax through a connection our label has. But unfortunately it’s something we can’t really afford right now due to the amount of costs involved. Hopefully in the near future when we get offered a decent deal with more compensation we could do something like that. Would be my dream for such a thing to happen!

MM - Is there any final statement you would like to make? The band is awesome, the music is great. You have all the ingredients to be a success inside the epic and extreme music styles.
D - Thank you so much for the kind words and the promotion man, it really means a lot :).
Please give a listen to the new album and grab it on bandcamp / bigcartel if you enjoy it! Your support means everything! And of course like our facebook to keep yourself updated!
Stay epic! \m/
