Blindstone---Live-In-Denmark---Inside-Cover

YOU CAN READ THE ENGLISH VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW BELOW

MiM - Greeting for the Karma Factory fue vuestra última grabación de estudio.
Martin – Si, probablemente agreguemos “Life Starts Over”, y posiblemente hasta “Ocean Of Time”.

Blindstone--band-507 o

MiM – Ustedes tocan canciones originales y algunas versiones.

¡Amo a Mountain!

Excepto That's What I Am, he disfrutado inmensamente cada disco que ha sacado.

¡No podemos esperar!!!

Martin - Muchas gracias  Tony. Espero verte en España, ¡cuídate!

ENGLISH VERSION

Many of the songs have lots of room for improvisation, so that will change things around every night.

Blindstone--martin-684 n

MiM - Hello Martin, I’m Tony Gonzalez from Made in Metal and I would like to ask you some questions related to your Spanish tour in May and the new CD. To begin, Martin, why did you decide to tour around Spain? Is it your first time here? What do you expect to find here?
Martin - As a matter of fact, we didn't choose Spain. Spain chose us! We didn´t know that there would be interest in us doing a Spanish tour, but I was contacted late last year, by Andrés from Black Moon Creep Agency, who asked if we were interested. Before we knew it, he had those 10 dates in May for us!
It's our first time in Spain yes. I don't know if any of the other guys have been there before, but I have never visited Spain before. I expect to see a beautiful country, and hopefully meet lots of new, interesting people, who will like what we are doing.

MiM - You will be here introducing your new Live CD, Live in Denmark.  The original recording was done in Plantagehuset, Thisted, Denmark, in june 8th, 2013. Why did you release in 2015?
Martin - We would have released it before now, but things never go as planned, do they? :-)

Blindstone-new-drummer913 o

MiM - Is the band still strong as we can listen to in the CD?
Martin - Oh, absolutely! We will be bringing a substitute drummer, as Anders is unable to do the tour. So it will sound marginally different, of course, but not in a bad way.

MiM - Greeting for the Karma Factory was your last studio recording. Three songs are included in the Live CD. Are you going to play these songs during your Spanish Tour?
Martin - Yes, we are. We will probably also play “Life Starts Over”, and maybe even “Ocean Of Time”.

MiM - In fact, what can we expect during your Spanish concerts? Are you going to play basically the Live in Finland CD alive or there will be something different?
Martin - The set list will be similar, but it will include more songs.  And many of the songs have lots of room for improvisation, so that will change things around every night.

Blindstone-band-262 o

MiM - You play original songs and some covers. I feel glad when I listen “Land of 1000 Nights”, the Frank Marino’s song, played by you. Why did you choose that song? I ask you because I consider Frank Marino is not enough recognized as the magnificent guitar player he is.
Martin - And I entirely agree! Frank Marino gets nowhere near the respect he deserves, from the guitar community. He is truly one of the greats!!!
We have done other Frank Marino / Mahogany Rush songs in the past, but this particular song was a request from our record company. I absolutely LOVE this song, and Frank's own version is beyond magnificent. I wasn't sure we could pull it off properly, but it seems it worked :-)

MiM - You select two Jimi Hendrix songs to be played alive. Why?
Martin - We have always played Hendrix songs, and we always will. Jimi Hendrix is my main influence on the guitar, and always has been, since I heard his music for the first time, a long time ago. We originally covered “Are You Experienced” on our first studio album, and we have played it ever since. “Stone Free” is a more recent addition to the repertoire. In fact, the version you hear on Live in Denmark is the very first time ever played it in concert!
We have also done other Hendrix covers on previous records: “House Burning Down” was on the Rise Above album, and Rare Tracks included our version of “Foxy Lady”.

Blindstone-band-060 n

MiM - The band is settling down in Thisted, Denmark, and its sound is blues rock and American power trio. How a band as far from those roots of this kind of music was inspired by it?
Martin - That's the beautiful thing, isn´t it? Music is a universal language!
For some reason, the Bluesy Hard Rock of the 60's and 70's appealed to all three of us, and inspired us to various degrees.  But it is an interesting point. This type of music must have global appeal. It has inspired people all over the world. From Lance Lopez in Texas, to us in Denmark, to Gugun Power Trio in Indonesia! It's everywhere! :-)

MiM - I would like to give you a small list of guitar players who remains me the music of Blindstone and I would like your personal opinion about them.

Leslie West
Martin - A giant! Such a great player, with a HUGE tone, and a tremendous singing voice too.
I love Mountain!! We played a Rock Cruise in Sweden a few years ago, and Mountain were also on the bill, on another stage. They did a great, great show there. Such a big sound from only 3 people. My wife and I briefly met Leslie and Mrs. West before Mountain's show, and they were wonderful, friendly people. I was saddened to see him lose his leg to diabetes. Incredible that he's still rocking in the face of such adversity.

Eric Clapton
Again, one of the greats! I don´t own or equally love everything he has ever done, but I find his work with Cream VERY inspirational. That old 70's live album of his from Japan, Just One Night, is another highlight for me. A great, soulful player. I have nothing but the highest respect for the man!

Robin Trower
A personal favorite! I absolutely love his music and guitar playing. He plays with a very soulful touch, and his tone is just incredible. The albums with Jimmy Dewar singing are all classics! Everybody should listen to Trower!

Rory Gallagher
I like what I've heard on albums and seen on DVD's, but he's not really an influence as such. But he was a great guitar player for sure! Sadly he, he left us much too early.

Eric Gales
Phenomenal. Awesome musician! Another personal favorite. The very first Eric Gales Band album is a genuine classic. He was only in his teens, when they did that record! Apart from “That's What I Am”, I have immensely enjoyed every album he has put out. I have nothing but praise for him! His late brother, Li'l Jimmy King / Manuel Gales, was a great, great player too.

Blindstone-band-215 n

MiM - Is there something more you would like to tell your Spanish fans and the people who will be expecting the band alive in Spain?
Martin - We hope to see you all in Spain, next month! If you like loud guitar and long jams, you are in for a treat! We can't wait!!! :-)

MiM - Best wishes, Martin. I hope you enjoy your Spanish tour.
Martin - Thank you very much, Tony. Hope to see you in Spain! Take care!
