"Después del buen sexo vienen las grandes ideas"
La banda ucraniana de Hard Rock Star Crystal, una de las bandas más interesantes de ese país. Made in Metal, conversa con Susanna Radimovskaya, líder, fundadora y vocalista de la banda, para conocer más sobre ellos.
MiM: Hola Susanna, para empezar, me gustaría que explicaras a los lectores ¿cuál es el concepto musical y estético que existe detrás de la banda?
SR: Nuestra idea principal es que queremos volver a la música de los 80, con la que crecimos escuchando música glam / heavy metal, y soñábamos con tocarla en instrumentos imaginarios o cantar frente a multitudes de metaleros que gritaban. La mayoría de las veces, en nuestras canciones, enfatizamos la pasión, el amor o la motivación de las personas fuertes y, por supuesto, lo que sentimos y experimentamos.
MiM: ¿Cómo fueron esos inicios? ¿Qué tan difícil ha sido para la banda ingresar al mundo de la industria musical?
SR: Cuando nos encontramos empezamos a crear música en ucraniano. Creamos unas 20 canciones, era difícil encontrar un lugar para tocar, y pagaban una pequeña cantidad de dinero. Entonces entendemos que en Ucrania no era posible hacer música que nos gusta porque el estilo que tocamos no está en la radio, y los clubes rara vez invitan a bandas con este estilo y si lo hacen, solo cubren equipos, entonces no esperamos buena suerte en Ucrania, decidimos tocar para un público estadounidense y europeo.
MiM: Susanna, he escuchado varios temas separados de la banda, los cuales te agradezco que me los hayas enviado y en mi opinión la propuesta musical de la banda es deudora de lo mejor del Hard Rock, el sonido de la época dorada del Sunset Strip de los '80. Con un sonido fresco, actual cien por cien. ¿Cuál crees que es la razón de ese sonido fresco?
SR: Probablemente la razón es que vivimos en un mundo moderno y aunque tocamos música de los 80, inconscientemente agregamos algunas ideas modernas, y también no olviden que algunas personas no conocen este estilo y les suena nuevo.
MiM: ¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias a la hora de componer nuevo material?
SR: Después del buen sexo vienen las grandes ideas.
MiM: ¡Susanna, tienes una voz increíble! ¡Excelente vocalista! ¿Tienes una formación académica o es empírica?
SR: Aprendí casi solo, recuerdo que siempre quise ser artista. Me encanta el escenario desde que era un niño. Siempre pensé que era un cantante famoso, y así actuaba. La silla fue mi primer escenario. Me paraba sobre él y cantaba canciones o contaba poemas. En casa, por supuesto. Recuerdo ese sentimiento y, por supuesto, significa mucho para mí porque mi sueño se hizo realidad.
MiM: El trabajo de producción, mezcla y masterización es impecable. A. ¿En qué posición ha estado la música de la banda? ¿En qué estudio de grabación se realizó la grabación?
SR: Todas las canciones fueron creadas por la banda y buscamos el estudio de grabación que hiciera el sonido que queríamos. Encontramos un estudio así en nuestra ciudad natal. Así que toda la masterización y la mezcla también se realizaron bajo nuestro control.
MiM: ¿Cómo es el proceso creativo de componer música, es un proceso colectivo, o solo uno o quizás dos son los que componen en la banda?
SR: Alex trae una idea y cuando la banda se une, la canción arde. Tratamos de llevar cada canción a la perfección, para que a todos les guste, y ahora escribimos música excelente. Nos gusta mirar en la sala y ver cómo la gente disfruta.
MiM: ¿Planes de conciertos y giras para el resto del año?
SR: Estamos en una pequeña gira en Austria ahora mismo, tenemos tres conciertos aquí. En el futuro solo tendremos un concierto en Rumania en diciembre.
MiM: El mundo entero ha estado prestando mucha atención a la feroz invasión de Ucrania por parte de Rusia. ¿Cómo evalúa la situación actual en su país? ¿Crees que desde tu punto de vista podrías ponernos al día sobre qué está pasando exactamente en Ucrania hoy en día y cómo bandas como Star Crystal consiguen desenvolverse en un escenario tan hostil en el que se encuentran?
SR: No estamos metidos en política, pero nos duele ver todo lo que está pasando. Obstruye seriamente la creatividad de nuestra banda y otras bandas de diferentes países.
MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.
SR: Amor, enamórate de nuestra música y sé feliz. La música en vivo y el rock and roll sabrán el mundo.

The Ukrainian Hard Rock band Star Crystal, one of the most interesting bands from that country. Made in Metal, talks with Susanna Radimovskaya, leader, founder, and vocalist of the band to learn more about them.
MiM: Hello Susanna, to begin with, I would like you to explain to the readers what is the musical and aesthetic concept that exists behind the band?
SR: Our main idea is that we want to return to the music of the 80's, with what we grew up hearing glam / heavy metal music, and dreamed of playing it on imaginary instruments or singing in front of screaming crowds of metalheads. Most of the time, in our songs, we emphasize the passion, love, or motivation of strong people and, of course, what we feel and experience.
MiM: How were those beginnings? How difficult has it been for the band to enter the world of the music industry?
SR: When we found each other we started to create music in Ukrainian. We created about 20 songs, and it was difficult to find a venue to play, and they paid a small amount of money. Then we understand that in Ukraine it was not possible to make music that we like for reason that the style that we play is not on the radio, and clubs rarely invite bands with this style and if they do, then only cover teams, so we did not wait for good luck in Ukraine, we decided to play for an American and European audience.
MiM: Susanna, I have listened to several separate songs by the band, which I thank you for sending to me and in my opinion, the musical proposal of the band is indebted to the best of Hard Rock, the sound of the golden era of the Sunset Strip of the '80. With a fresh, contemporary sound one hundred percent. What do you think is the reason for that fresh sound?
SR: Probably the reason is that we live in a modern world and even though we play music from the 80's we unconsciously add some modern ideas, and also do not forget that some people do not know this style and it sounds new to them
MiM: What are your main influences when composing new material?
SR: After good quality sex comes great ideas.
MiM: Susanna you have an amazing voice! Excellent vocalist! Do you have an academic background or is it empirical?
SR: I learned almost by myself, I remember that I always wanted to be an artist. I have loved the stage since I was a kid. I always thought I was a famous singer, and that's how I acted. The chair was my first stage. I would stand on it and sing songs or tell poems. At home, of course.I remember that feeling, and of course, it means a lot to me because my dream came true.
MiM: The production, mixing, and mastering work is impeccable. A. Whose position has the music of the band been in? In which recording studio did the recording take place?
SR: All the songs were created by the band and we searched for the recording studio that would do the sound that we wanted. We found such a studio in our home city. So all the mastering and mixing was done under our control too.
MiM: How is the creative process of composing music, is it a collective process, or only one or maybe two are the ones who compose in the band?
SR: Alex brings an idea and when the band joins in, the song is burning. Each song we try to bring it to perfection, so that everyone likes it, and now we write terrific music. We like to look in the hall and see how people enjoy it.
MiM: Concert and tour plans for the rest of the year?
SR: We are on a small tour in Austria right now, we have three concerts here. In the future, we only have one concert in Romania in December.
MiM: The whole world has been paying close attention to Russia's ferocious invasion of Ukraine. How do you assess the current situation in your country? Do you think that from your point of view you could update us on what exactly is happening in Ukraine today and how bands like Star Crystal manage to develop in such a hostile scenario in which they find themselves?
SR: We are not in politics, but it pains us to see everything that is going on. It seriously obstructs the creativity of our band and other bands from different countries.
