“Presentamos una larga y compleja historia sobre la libertad versus una policía moral”
La banda de metal progresivo con sede en Uppsala, Suecia, Loch Vostok, lanzó su nuevo álbum Opus Ferox II – Mark of the Beast el 19 de abril a través de ViciSolum Productions. Made in Metal habla con el guitarrista Teddy Möller para saber todo sobre este lanzamiento.
MiM: “Opus Ferox II: Mark of the Beast” (ViciSolum Productions, 2024) es un álbum que suena excelente. Pasajes melódicos complejos con un sonido pesado y fuertes riffs de guitarra. ¿Qué puedes decirme sobre este álbum?
LV: ¡Muchas gracias! El sonido es realmente fantástico. Muchas gracias a Ronnie Björnström, quien lo mezcló y masterizó. Pasamos mucho tiempo asegurándonos de que todo se grabara al 100 % a la perfección. Es la segunda parte de una trilogía, donde “Opus Ferox 1” fue la presentación de la historia, y la segunda parte está más centrada en el ascenso de “El Papado”, los villanos de esta larga y compleja historia sobre la libertad versus una policía moral.
MiM: ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del nombre de la banda?
LV: El lago Vostok es un lago de agua dulce bajo la Antártida, y acabamos de cambiar el “Lake” por el “Loch” escocés.
MiM: “The Great Wide Open” es una canción llena de melodías y pasajes de fondo complejos. ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este tema?
LV: Quería un coro realmente grandilocuente para ayudar a contar la historia de esta canción. Fue lo primero que escribí y luego basé todos los riffs que rodeaban el coro circundante.
MiM: ¿Cómo es el proceso creativo de componer música? ¿Es un proceso colectivo o son solo uno o quizás dos los que componen en la banda?
LV: Escribo el 99 % de la música. Pero ahora con William Parkstam en la banda, él también escribirá. Simplemente, me siento en mi estudio de producción y escribo cada vez que tengo tiempo libre. Siempre escucho el producto terminado en mi cabeza cuando empiezo y toco todos los instrumentos estándar. Así que simplemente hago demostraciones de producción completa de todo lo que escribo, se las envío a los demás y ellos me dicen si apesta o no.
MiM: Son una banda con más de veinte años de formación. ¿Cómo fueron esos inicios? ¿Qué tan difícil ha sido para la banda?
LV: Nunca fue nada difícil, siempre nos enfocamos en divertirnos, lo que ayudó a la longevidad, obviamente. Los comienzos fueron muy divertidos, ensayando mucho, intentando encontrar nuestra voz e identidad. Nunca nos preocupamos por las reglas de composición y todos los estilos pueden completar la misión.
MiM: ¿Cuáles son tus influencias más directas a la hora de componer material nuevo para la banda?
LV: Ahora mismo es imposible decirlo. Escucho de todo, desde Tech N9ne, Miss Li, Napalm Death, Vola, Fates Parking hasta Kings X, King Diamond, Car Bomb, D.A.D. , Emperador, Nordjevel y ya, Septekh.
MiM: ¿Podríamos definir el sonido de la banda o, por el contrario, son una banda inquieta a la que le gusta innovar y abrir nuevas propuestas?
LV: La última parte. Escribo lo que me apetece y supongo que nuestro sonido está comprimido precisamente por eso, ¡sin malditas reglas!
MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum? ¿Conciertos o giras programadas en este nuevo año?
LV: Se avecinan muchos espectáculos, aún no hay giras porque estamos buscando la agencia de contratación perfecta. Pero tocaremos MUCHO en Suecia, además de Dinamarca y Rumania. Si alguien tiene ideas sobre espectáculos en España o Portugal, por favor contacte con nosotros.

Uppsala, Sweden-based Progressive Metal band Loch Vostok will release their new album “Opus Ferox II – Mark of the Beast” on April 19 via ViciSolum Productions. Made in Metal talks to the guitar player, Teddy Möller, to find out everything about this release.
MiM: “Opus Ferox II: Mark of the Beast” (ViciSolum Productions, 2024) is an excellent-sounding album. Complex melodic passages with a heavy sound and strong guitar riffs. What can you tell me about this album?
LV: Thanks a lot! The sound is indeed fantastic; many thanks to Ronnie Björnström who mixed and mastered it. We spent a lot of time making sure everything was recorded to 100% perfection. It’s part II of a trilogy, where “Opus Ferox 1” was the presentation of the story, and part II is more focused on the rise of “The Papacy”, the villains in this long complex story about freedom vs a moral police.
MiM: What is the concept behind the band name?
LV: Lake Vostok is a Sweetwater lake under Antarctica, and we just changed the “Lake” to the Scottish “Loch”
MiM: “The Great Wide Open” It is a song full of melodies and complex backbeat passages. What can you tell me about this topic?
LV: I wanted a really bombastic chorus to help the story telling in this song. It was the first thing I wrote, and then based all the riffs surrounding the surrounding chorus.
MiM: What is the creative process of composing music like, is it a collective process, or is it just one or maybe two who compose in the band?
LV: I write 99% of the music. But now with William Parkstam in the band, he will be writing as well. I just sit down in my production studio and write whenever I have some time over. I always hear the finished product in my head when I start, and I play all the standard instruments. So, I just make full production demos of everything I write, send it to the other guys, they tell me whether it sucks or not!
MiM: They are a band with more than twenty years of formation. What were those beginnings like? How difficult has it been for the band?
LV: Never difficult at all, we always focused on having fun, which helped the longevity, obviously. The beginnings were so much fun, rehearsing a lot, trying to find our voice and identity. We never cared about rules of composition, and every style is allowed to complete the mission.
MiM: What are your most direct influences when composing new material for the band?
LV: Right now, it’s impossible to say. I listen to everything from Tech N9ne, Miss Li, Napalm Death, Vola, Fates Warning to Kings X, King Diamond, Car Bomb, D.A.D. , Emperor, Nordjevel and already, Septekh.
MiM: Could we define the band's sound or, on the contrary, are they a restless band that likes to innovate and open new proposals?
LV: The latter part. I write whatever I feel like, and I guess our sound is compressed by just that, no damn rules!
MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album? Concerts or tours scheduled in this new year?
LV: Many shows coming up, no tours yet as we’re searching for the perfect booking agency. But we’re playing A LOT in Sweden, plus Denmark and Romania coming up. If anyone has ideas about shows in Spain or Portugal, please contact us.
