MiM: ¿Cómo surgió la idea de crear un universo narrativo tan complejo en torno a la banda?
Curse of Cain: Nunca quisimos ser "solo una banda". Desde el principio, la esencia de Curse of Cain ha sido crear una historia sonora y visual. Lo que llamamos Movie Metal no se trata solo de la música, sino de una saga futurista totalmente inmersiva que vive en cada canción y visual. Se ambienta en un futuro postapocalíptico donde cada miembro de la banda encarna a un personaje que lucha en una lucha mayor.
MiM: En tu historia, la "Guerra Roja de 2076" y los "naufragios" tienen un peso simbólico. ¿Qué representan y cómo se conectan con los problemas actuales?
Curse of Cain: La Guerra Roja de 2076 representa un punto de inflexión traumático: una caída violenta que fractura la sociedad. Los naufragios son entidades parásitas que amenazan a la humanidad en nuestra historia. Y si se quiere, se pueden ver como metáforas de las fuerzas destructivas que enfrentamos hoy y que drenan nuestra empatía y unidad.
MiM: ¿Cómo se conectan los personajes de la banda con tus propias experiencias personales?
Curse of Cain: Cada rol que interpretamos (Pirate, Soulkeeper, Timekeeper, and Rainbow) contiene fragmentos de nuestras personalidades. Por ejemplo, la debilidad de Soulkeeper es su bocazas, y tras la máscara, le gusta mucho hablar. Mientras que Timekeeper es un frenético fanático del tiempo. Estos son solo algunos ejemplos, y los temas reflejan lo que todos hemos vivido: la lucha, la fuerza, la fragilidad y el acto de crear algo a partir del caos.
MiM: ¿Qué desafíos enfrentaste al crear un álbum que funciona como una saga?
Curse of Cain: Es un acto de equilibrio para que la música se mantenga firme y al mismo tiempo asegurar que cada canción impulse la narrativa. Curse of Cain: El Movie Metal es donde la música, las imágenes y la narrativa se fusionan en un todo. Es más que sonido: es atmósfera, imágenes, teatro y mito. Mientras que otras bandas se centran solo en los riffs o las letras, nosotros queremos transportar al público a una dimensión diferente con el concepto de "Movie Metal".
MiM: ¿Cómo equilibras la teatralidad con la autenticidad musical?
Curse of Cain: Siempre es una negociación, pero dejamos que la dinámica de los personajes moldee la música en lugar de simplemente añadir teatralidad. La música siempre es lo primero, pero nunca dejamos de lado la historia. En general, todo tiene que salir bien, y nos esforzamos mucho para ser interesantes y, por supuesto, divertirnos mucho durante el proceso.

Curse of Cain: "Achtung!" es un hito en nuestra trayectoria musical y es más bien una presentación de los personajes de la banda. Nuestro primer álbum homónimo contó la historia de Caín: sus luchas, sufrimiento y dolor. Fue escrito a lo largo de muchos años y en diferentes constelaciones, y Achtung! nos ha acercado un paso más a dónde queremos estar y a cómo nos gustaría crear nuestra música. Curse of Cain: Ya tenemos un concierto planeado para el 13 de septiembre en Larvik, Noruega, el primer contacto en esta próxima fase. También estamos explorando eventos más inmersivos, transmisiones en vivo basadas en historias y experiencias interactivas, pero eso es solo el comienzo. On September 26th, the dystopian universe of Curse of Cain expands with relentless force. Under the ROAD label, the Swedish band releases their long-awaited second album, "Achtung," a work that shakes the foundations of modern metal and redefines what it means to tell stories through music. In this new chapter, the characters of Curse of Cain face chaos, darkness, and their demons in a narrative that blends science fiction, theater, and sonic power. Today, we delve into their dimension to discover the secrets behind their anthems, their masks, and their message of unity. This is an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to speak with the band.
MiM: How did the idea of creating such a complex narrative universe around the band come about?
Curse of Cain: We never wanted to be “just a band.” From the very beginning, the essence of Curse of Cain has been to create a sonic and visual story. What we call Movie Metal isn’t only about the music—it's a fully immersive, futuristic saga that lives within every song and visual. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic future where each band member embodies a character fighting within a larger struggle.
MiM: In your story, the "Red War of 2076" and the "wrecks" carry symbolic weight. What do these represent, and how do they connect to present-day issues?
Curse of Cain: The Red War 2076 represents a traumatic turning point—a violent downfall that fractures society. The wrecks are parasitic entities threatening humanity in our tale. And if you will, you can see them as metaphors for destructive forces we face today that drain our empathy and unity.
MiM: How do the band’s characters connect to your own personal experiences?
Curse of Cain: Each role we play—the Pirate, Soulkeeper, Timekeeper, and Rainbow—holds fragments of our personalities. For instance, Soulkeeper's weakness is that he has a big mouth, and behind the mask, he really likes to talk a lot. While Timekeeper is a frenetic time freak. These are just a few examples, and the themes reflect what we’ve all lived: the fight, the strength, the fragility, and the act of creating something out of chaos.
MiM: What challenges did you face in creating an album that works as a saga?
Curse of Cain: It’s a balancing act to make the music stand strong while ensuring that each song pushes the narrative forward. "Achtung!" isn’t just a collection of songs—it's ten chapters, from “Mirror Mirror” to “Tik Tok (Darkness),” where sound, aesthetics, and storytelling must coexist without compromising authenticity.
MiM: What does it mean to walk “between light and shadow, chaos and order”?
Curse of Cain: That’s our spiritual tightrope. We exist in the middle of chaos—that's where creativity and rebellion are born. Between light and darkness, order and chaos—that's where truth and strength emerge.
MiM: How do you define the concept of "Movie Metal," and what makes it different from other genres?
Curse of Cain: Movie Metal is where music, visuals, and narrative fuse into one whole. It’s more than sound—it's atmosphere, imagery, theater, and myth. While other bands may focus on riffs or lyrics alone, we want to transport the audience into a different dimension with the concept ”Movie Metal”.
MiM: How do you balance theatricality with musical authenticity?
Curse of Cain: It’s always a negotiation, but we let the characters’ dynamics shape the music rather than simply adding theatrics on top. The music always comes first, but we never set the story aside. Overall, everything needs to be good, and we put significant effort into making us interesting and, of course, have a lot of fun during the process.
MiM: How were characters like Soulkeeper, Timekeeper, and the Pirate created, and what part of you lives within them?
Curse of Cain: Each character emerged organically from the songwriting and the core concept. Soulkeeper is our collective voice of empathy and moral weight, Timekeeper embodies the struggle with time, and the Pirate stands for rebellion and raw drive. They reflect aspects of us—our strengths, our flaws, our shadow sides.
MiM: How does each character influence the musical and stage composition?
Curse of Cain: Their abilities—Timekeeper's control of time, Soulkeeper’s book magic, and Rainbow’s strength—all manifest in the way we shape the music, the tempo shifts, and the dramatic arcs. On stage, this is enhanced with visuals, movements, props, and costumes—a perfect synergy, and we put on one hell of a show, so even if you don’t like the music, the show will draw you in.
MiM: Your shows are described as theatrical experiences. How do you design them so the audience feels part of the story?
Curse of Cain: Through costumes, acting, set design, and visual cues, we turn the stage into our world. We constantly strive to do the best show we can and try to evolve it and improve a red thread through the show.
MiM: Amid the chaos you describe, there is a clear message of unity and perseverance. What has this project taught you about personal and collective struggle?
Curse of Cain: Even in the darkest times, music, and stories can unite people. We all carry inner wars, but together, we can resist them.
MiM: If Achtung! is one chapter, what can we expect next? Where is Curse of Cain’s story headed?
Curse of Cain: "Achtung!" is a milestone in our musical journey and is more of an introduction of the characters in the band. Our first self-titled album told the story of Cain—his struggles, suffering, and pain. It was written over many years and in different constellations, and Achtung! Has brought us one step closer to where we want to be and to how we would like to create our music. We’re excited to explore deeper conflicts, new forces, and stronger bonds in our dimension. The next chapter might be even darker and even more epic. The story is endless—we've built an entire universe around it, much like Star Wars, Mad Max, or even Predator. Within it, the voices of this band of misfits can guide you through their story… or down another path, as the tree branches out.
MiM: What are your plans for promoting the album? Can we expect tours, immersive experiences, or new ways to connect with fans within your narrative universe?
Curse of Cain: We already have a show planned for September 13 in Larvik, Norway—the first contact in this next phase. We’re also exploring more immersive events, story-driven livestreams, and interactive experiences—but that’s just the beginning. We need to get out on tour, and we are really working hard to make this happen! Likewise, we are, firstly, a live band, and if you want to experience us for real, it's live.

Curse of Cain: Welcome to the fight. We all carry our shadows, our scars & our strengths. This is not just our story—it's yours too. Together, we walk between light and darkness.
