Shatteheadr2

*English Version

Alicke: Hola, soy Alicke.

Shatteheadr2

From Gothenburg, where epic tales and metal are written with cold blood, Shatterheart bursts onto the scene as a new force in modern symphonic metal: formed in 2023 and with a full lineup since 2024, the quintet channels majestic melody and orchestral muscle in a debut designed to sound big and serious.

That leap is called “Infernal Symphony”: 10 tracks, released on February 6th via Art Gates Records, with the album recorded and produced by Johan Bergman and a high-voltage finish thanks to the mixing and mastering at Studio Fredman by Fredrik Nordström.

Today we open the doors to their “infernal symphony” to understand how identity is built in a saturated scene, what lies behind their cinematic architecture, and why Shatterheart doesn't sound like a presentation but rather a war oath.

ShatterheartMiM: Shatterheart was conceived in 2023 and completed as a band in 2024. What changed once the lineup became fixed: the sound, the ambition, or the songwriting process?

Johan: Hi, Johan from Shatterheart here; it's an honor to be here. Hm, well, nothing changed really, but since we became a real band and not a project, our ambition may have changed a bit.

MiM: You present yourselves as symphonic, but the label also mentions power metal elements and even a gothic/dark feel. What is the band's true “center of gravity”?

Johan: In my opinion it's symphonic metal, but the genre is wide. There are elements that are closely related to dark/gothic as well as power metal. I like fast music, so just add a bit of speed to the epic and gothic melodies, and all of a sudden it's more or less power metal.

MiM: How does the creative process unfold within the band when composing, structuring, and deciding which tracks or compositions will be included on an album? Is it a collaborative process among everyone, or does it fall to one or two people?

Johan: I wrote all the tracks by myself, and when I had ten tracks done, I decided to start recording the foundation of the album.

MiM: It's mentioned in several sources that Johan is the musical architect and that working with Alicke was key from the beginning. How is creative power distributed: vocal melodies first, orchestration first, or riffs first?

Johan: The instrumental parts were written first. Maybe I start with a riff or a melody and then evolve it from there. I wrote all the symphonic melodies on the guitar at first and then transferred them to keyboards. The lyrics and vocal parts were added after the instrumental parts.

MiM:  How do you build a vocal persona in modern symphonic metal without falling into operatic clichés while still maintaining a theatrical feel?

Alicke: Hi, Alicke here. Thank you for inviting us to do this interview with you! Well, I have studied music and experimented with plenty of different sounds and genres, which influences me when I sing. I do see myself as a chameleon, or a multi-sided vocalist, and I try to apply it in our music too.

MiM: The debut album is called “Infernal Symphony.” Is there a real conceptual thread connecting the 10 tracks, or does the title more describe the overall “atmosphere”?

Alicke: The main link between the songs is an inner reflection of deep feelings any of us may feel. Sometimes it's easy to translate the lyrics; sometimes things can be symbolic. The beauty of the whole thing is letting the fans and listeners translate the lyrics and relate to them in their own way. That's how people connect with music, I think!

MiM: “A Shattered Heart” was the first visual impact, and the EP Ground Turns To Dust served as a teaser. What did you want the audience to understand with that first message?

Johan: The song plays with the band name, and it includes all that we are—symphonic, heavy, fast with catchy choruses—so it felt like a natural song to release first.

MiM: “Betrayal” is featured by the label as a promotional piece. What is it about this track that makes it representative of the album?

Johan: In my opinion, it's the track with the best and most emotional chorus. It's also the song with the most traditional symphonic metal vibe—dark, heavy, but also beautiful.

MiM: “A Shattered Heart” and “Betrayal” are like both sides of the same coin. “Nightchild” was to be released as the second single in the press. What were you trying to show there that wasn't in the first single?

Johan: That song is a bit of a standout song. It's more of a radio friendly song that suits well as a single.

MiM: Signing with Art Gates Records gives you an international platform. Which part of the project will be professionalized first: touring, audiovisuals, or the production of the second album?

Johan: We have some shows booked during 2026, so I would say touring will be the first.

MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album? Are there any concerts or tours scheduled for this year?

Alicke: We are busy with interviews and press/reviews presently to promote the album. We will perform at the Ladies of Metal festival on the 24th of April in Athens, Greece; the South of Heaven Festival in the Czech Republic on the 4th of July; and Female Fronted Violence on the 4th of September in Belgium. Finally, we are performing at the Death Island festival in Denmark on the 11th of September. Subsequently, we are planning a tour.

MiM: Finally, did you want to make them feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers?

Alicke: We would like to thank our fans, and we hope to see them all soon on the road.
