English Version

Victorius Bandbild

From Germany to the entire universe, Victorius has built its own world where cybernetic dinosaurs, galactic ninjas, and impossible battles coexist with razor-sharp riffs, epic choruses, and an aesthetic that blends nostalgia, fantasy, and science fiction. With their upcoming album, “World War Dinosaur,” produced by Lars Rettkowitz, the band opens a new chapter in its intergalactic saga. It takes its symphonic power metal to a more cinematic, intense, and excessive level. Made in Metal talks to Dirk Scharsich about this new era, their creative universe, and the energy that has made them an unstoppable force in Europe, Japan, the USA, and beyond.

VICTORIUS CD War World DinosaurMiM: “World War Dinosaur” marks a point of reinvention for the band. What new or unexpected elements will fans find on this album compared to your previous work?

VT: We spent more time with little details here and there but also tried to keep things simpler and straighter at the same time. Our fans can expect the typical Victorius anthems. One of the fans who already heard the album before its release said that this one is the most epic one.

MiM: Your narrative universe has grown with each release. What was the creative process like for building this all-out war between cybernetic dinosaurs and space ninja legions?

VT: We always try to extend the boundaries of this concept. We are always aiming for more. So it was an obvious decision to make the next step. And that step was to bring the war between dinosaurs and ninjas to the whole planet. The previous albums were just the beginning. Now the war is on! It is an even bigger story now. Only more is more, as Yngwie Malmsteen said.

MiM: The visual concept has always been key for Victorious. What was it like working with Stan W. Decker to bring this new stage to life, and what did you want to convey with the cover art?

VT: Stan is a fantastic guy. Always super supportive and professional. He became an important member of our crew, so to say. The order he gets from us is always the same: to create the best power metal artwork of all time. I think he succeeded. He told me that this cover was one of the biggest things he has ever worked on. He is truly a genius. And I hope real cover artists will still be around for a long time, facing the fact that AI is taking over the world now.

MiM: The album was produced by Lars Rettkowitz. What did his vision contribute to the final sound, and how did it influence the evolution toward a more cinematic and intense approach?

VT: He has a big influence on the final sound. Basically he is the only external person I trust when it comes to songwriting ideas and opinions. He adds many ideas to the final steps of the songs. And he is actually responsible for all the orchestrations. He is like our big brother.

MiM: Your tours in Europe, Japan, and the United States have demonstrated that your live show is a complete experience. What changes or surprises are you preparing for the “World War Dinosaur” presentation?

VT: More of everything! We will bring a new stage production that will fit perfectly into our sci-fi-dinosaur universe. There will be more show elements to present this battle on stage. It will be like a theater piece. We have planned some really cool things. The fans can expect pure Power Metal Madness..

MiM: Victorius defines itself as “Outer Space Power Metal.” How do you balance symphonic epicness, the energy of classic power metal, and futuristic aesthetics without losing your identity? Nostalgia for cartoons, action figures, and childhood imagination is an essential part of their DNA. What role does this inspiration play in their music and their connection with the audience?

VT: Yeah, we love all these silly action cartoon shows from the early 90s. People always say that we are inspired by these things, but this is not the case. So the inspiration is not as big as you might think. We are just creative people who don't care what others say.

MiM: “World War Dinosaur” opens the album with a clear statement of intent. What musical and narrative elements did you want to establish from the very first second, and how does this song define the tone of the entire story that unfolds afterward?

VT: For this album we wanted a more military approach, which is obvious when you see what this concept is about, haha. The title track of the album is a big song. I would say the feeling of this song is a bit more serious. But yeah, it is big and epic and a perfect representation of the rest of the album.

MiM: “Cybernetic Rex Reborn” seems to be one of the most epic and cinematic moments on the album. How did you work on the blend of symphonic orchestrations and aggressive riffs to convey the magnitude of this character's rebirth within the saga?

VT: I have never heard of a song called “Cybernetic Rex Reborn,” sorry haha! Let us just skip that question, as I am not sure which song you mean.

MiM: “Ninja Starfall” introduces a darker and more dizzying twist to the plot. What decisions did you make regarding tempo, arrangements, and atmosphere to reflect the fall—both literal and symbolic—of the space ninja legions in this phase of the war?

VT: And again, there is no song called “Ninja Starfall,” but I assume you are talking about the song “Lazer Ninja Thunderstorm.” It is not about the fall of the ninjas. The thunderstorm symbolizes the wrath and fury of the ninjas. They are always angry, so to say. The song describes how the ninjas are planning their next attack and that they won't surrender.

MiM: “Raptor Squad Attack” stands out for its speed and its almost cinematic chase vibe. How did you construct the sonic identity of this track to convey the ferocity and coordination of the raptor squad, and what role does it play in the unfolding war between cybernetic dinosaurs and space ninjas?

VT: The raptors are the stormtroopers of the dinosaurs. A special task force. Super efficient and reckless. Their mission is to overrun the enemy and to attack when they least expect it. The song title came first, then I had the chorus, and thereafter, I did build the rest of the surrounding song. It all came together very naturally.

MiM: Looking ahead, what new musical or narrative territories would you like to explore within the Victorius universe?

VT: We have cool plans for the future. But I would rather not spoil things here. I think we will establish the typical Victorius sound even more. People shall know it is us from the very first note on. But of course we have plans and ideas to explore and extend our concept and sound even further. However, this is something I will keep a secret, haha.
