¡¡Somos duros como el acero!!
Músicos de bandas como Asphyx, Sodom y Born Infected se unen al batería Stefan Husky Hüskens y al guitarrista Frank Berges para formar Rotten Casket, marcado por el Death Metal nórdico.
MiM - Hola, mi nombre es Raúl Cardona y es un gran placer hablar con la banda de Death Metal Rotten Casket. ¡Hola tíos! ¿Cómo están? Gracias por aceptar chatear con nosotros.
RC - ¡Hola Raúl! ¡De nada y espero que estés bien y que todos gocen de buena salud allí!
MiM - ¿Cuéntanos sobre los inicios de la banda? ¿Dónde y cómo se formó? ¿Cómo surgió la idea?
RC - Frank comenzó la banda en 2013 como una one-man-band. Después de conocer a Willem, la banda creció hasta convertirse en un quinteto. Después de dos demos, una compilación de un CD y en medio de las grabaciones del primer disco, la banda se separó debido a algunas "opiniones diferentes sobre las cosas". Después de mudarme a Epe para casarme con mi encantadora esposa, me reunía con frecuencia con Frank, ya que su esposa y mi esposa son las mejores amigas. Después de unas cervezas descubrimos nuestro amor por el Death Metal sueco y las bandas Crust. Así que primero empezamos a ensayar y descubrimos rápidamente que esto era Rotten Casket otra vez. Después de eso, comenzamos a reorganizar las viejas canciones y encontramos a Martin Van Drunen (Asphyx, ex Bolt Thrower, etc.), Yorck Segatz (Sodom, Neck Cemetary) y Patrick Van der Beed (Disabuse, Born Infected), tres amigos para completar los instrumentos!
MiM - Estos últimos dos años han sido atípicos y difíciles para los músicos debido a la pandemia. ¿Cómo han manejado esta situación? En este tiempo, ¿a qué se han dedicado?
RC - Ya sabes, además de Asphyx, también trabajo como agente de reservas en una agencia alemana y sí, ahora me molesta que ya son casi dos años, ¡nada! Con Asphyx tocamos un par de shows el año pasado en el verano, ¡pero eso no estuvo ni cerca de los conciertos que tocamos normalmente! Compré una casa con mi esposa y la reconstruí. Compré muchos discos en línea y bebí cervezas... Fue bueno tener una familia perfecta como apoyo. Todos lo estamos haciendo bien, incluso Martin, que vive de la música. ¡Pero necesitamos/esperamos que esta pesadilla termine muy pronto!
MiM -¿Qué ha sido lo más difícil para ustedes como banda?
RC - ¡¡Somos duros como el acero!!
MiM - Rotten Casket lanzará el EP First Nail in the Casket (Supreme Chaos Records, 2022) el 11 de febrero. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción musical? ¿En qué estudio de grabación tuvo lugar? ¿Quién fue su productor?
RC - Sí, Supreme Chaos lanzará la versión MCD y la camiseta en febrero y el vinilo (MLP) y la cinta ya se lanzaron en Lycantropic Chants. Tres de estas cuatro canciones ya fueron escritas por Frank, solo las volvimos a arreglar en mi propio estudio de ensayo/grabación „EPEdemic“. Las canciones del álbum están grabadas por Tom Meier en Tom Meier Studios, Enschede/Países Bajos. También grabó la voz y mezcló/masterizó "First Nail in the Casket". Todas las guitarras y el bajo se grabaron en Frank Homestudio sWeeds Studios aquí en Epe/ Alemania.
MiM - ¿Cómo fue el fichaje de la banda por Supreme Chaos Records? ¿Qué ventajas ofrece a la banda pertenecer al sello y cómo es la relación con ellos?
RC - Robby es un viejo amigo mío. Creo que nos conocimos por primera vez en los 90 cuando estaba de gira con mi antigua banda Desaster. Estaba haciendo un festival y también espectáculos locales en el área de Suabia. Desde hace unos años se mudó cerca de Ibbenbüren/Osnabrück, que está a 30 minutos del lugar donde vivo. Es un tipo genial con grandes visiones. ¡Feliz de tenerlo en el equipo! :D
MiM -Rotten Casket se consolida como banda, ¿o es solo un proyecto donde los integrantes canalizan sus principales influencias?
RC - RottenCasket es una banda completa que reúne las influencias del Death Metal sueco/finlandés de la vieja escuela con algunas partes de Crust/Punk y mucha diversión. Somos una banda, no solo un proyecto, sino que todos tenemos otras bandas. Y especialmente Asphyx y Sodom necesitarán mucho tiempo. Así que habrá shows en vivo, pero rara vez.
MiM - ¿Proyecto de gira o conciertos este año?
RC-2022? 100% sin gira! Tal vez uno o dos shows en festivales... ¡pero nada planeado todavía! ¿Quizás un programa de lanzamiento? ¡Quién sabe!

MiM - Hello, my name is Raúl Cardona and it is a great pleasure to talk with the Death Metal band Rotten Casket. Hi guys !!! How are you? Thank you for agreeing to chat with us.
RC - Hey Raul! You are welcome and I hope you are fine and all are in good health over there!
MiM - Tell us about the beginnings of the band? Where and how was it formed? How did the idea come about?
RC -Frank started the band in 2013 as a one-man project. After he met Willem the band grow up to five pieces. After two demos, one cd compilation, and in the middle of recordings to the first full length, the band split up due to some „different views on things“. After I moved to Epe to marry my lovely wife, I met Frank often, since his wife and my wife are best friends. After some beers, we found out we both love Swedish Death Metal and crust bands. So first we started rehearsing and found out fast that this was Rotten Casket again. After that, we started re-arranging the old songs and found in Martin Van Drunen (Asphyx, ex Bolt Thrower, etc), Yorck Segatz (Sodom, Neck Cemetary), and Patrick Van der Beed (Disabuse, Born Infected), three friends to fill the gaps on the instruments!
MiM - These last two years have been atypical and difficult for musicians due to the pandemic. How have they handled this situation? In this time, what have they dedicated themselves to?
RC - You know, besides Asphyx I also work as a booking agent at a German booking Agency and yes, it’s annoying me now, that it is now nearly two years nothing! With Asphyx we played a couple of shows last year in summer, but that was only not even close to numbers we play normally! I bought a house with my wife and rebuild it. I bought many records online and drunk beers… It was good to have a perfect family in the back. Every one of us is doing well, even Martin, who lives out of the music. But we need/hope that this nightmare getting end very soon!
MiM -What has been the hardest for you as a band?
RC - We are hard as steel!!
MiM - Rotten Casket will be releasing the First Nail in the Casket EP (Supreme Chaos Records, 2022) on February 11. How was the process of recording and music production? In which recording studio did it take place? Who was its producer?
RC - Yes, the MCD version and shirt will be released by Supreme Chaos in February, and Vinyl (MLP) and tape are already released at Lycanthropic Chants. Three of these four songs were already written by Frank, we just re-arranged them in my own rehearsal/recording studio „EPEdemic“ studios. The songs on the album are recorded by Tom Meier at Tom Meier Studios, Enschede/Netherlands. He also recorded voice and mixed/mastered „First Nail in the Casket“. All guitars and bass were recorded at Frank Homestudio „sWeeds Studios“ here in Epe/ Germany.
MiM - How was the signing of the band by Supreme Chaos Records? What advantages does belonging to the label offer the band and how is the relationship with them?
RC - Robby is an old friend of mine. I think we met first times in the ’90s when I was on the road with my old band Desaster. He was doing a festival and also local shows in the Swabian area. For a few years, he moved near Ibbenbüren/Osnabrück which is 30 minutes from the place where I live. He is a cool guy with huge visions. Happy to have him on the team! :D
MiM -Rotten Casket is consolidated as a band, or is it just a project where the members channel their main influences?
RC - Rotten Casket is a full band to bring together old-school Swedish/Finnish Death Metal influences with some Crust/Punk parts and many fun! We are a band, not a project only, but all of us have other bands. And especially Asphyx and Sodom will need a lot of time. So live shows will happen, but rarely.
MiM - Tour project or concerts this year?
RC - 2022? 100% no tour! Maybe one or two festival shows… but nothing planned yet! Maybe a release show? Who knows!
