PR: Prowler se formó en 1975 en una época en la que las grandes bandas de rock clásico estaban en su apogeo. Bandas como Deep Purple, Budgie, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath; tantas bandas grandes e influyentes. A finales de los 70, muchos de estos grupos se habían desvanecido, por lo que aparecieron nuevas formaciones que querían emular a los grupos originales y mantener viva la música. Hubo toda una escena que se desarrolló en lo que se llamó la NWOBHM. Las bandas del sur y de Londres, así como las del norte del país, empezaron a hacerse notar. Era una época estupenda para formar parte de un grupo de rock y metal pesado. Había muchos locales y muchos fans que querían buena música.
MiM: ¿Qué ha pasado con Prowler en todos estos años?
PR: Prowler se disolvió en 1982 y tomaron caminos separados, todavía actuando o haciendo trabajos de sesión, grabando, etc. para proyectos de otras bandas. Los miembros de la banda siempre siguieron siendo amigos y siempre buscaron volver a empezar en algún momento. Era sólo cuestión de tiempo y de tener la oportunidad.
MiM: "Reactivate" (Cherry Red Records, 2022) es un excelente regalo para todos los amantes del Heavy Metal. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción?
PR: La mayoría de los temas de "Reactivate" fueron grabados en 1980 - 81. Algunos fueron grabados con el legendario productor Chris Tsangarides, otros fueron grabaciones en vivo, dos temas fueron grabados más recientemente en la historia de la banda como grabaciones conmemorativas, como "Heavy Metal Hero". PR: Gracias. La idea del riff principal surgió de un solo de teclado de Jon Lord en "Live in Europe". Tuvimos la oportunidad de reeditar "GGBTY" con una versión más limpia en digital, eso es todo. Esa es la versión original de "Brute Force!, que es un gran álbum; hay muchas grandes bandas en él. Tuvimos el privilegio de ser invitados a ese álbum.

MiM: How were the beginnings of the band? What memories do you have of those times when together with bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Angel Witch, and Vardis they were part of the NWOBHM?
PR: Prowler was formed in 1975 at a time when the great classic rock bands were at their height. Bands like Deep Purple, Budgie, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath; are so many great and influential bands. By the late 70s many of these bands had faded, so new bands came onto the scene who wanted to emulate the original bands and keep the music alive. There was a whole scene that developed into what became called the NWOBHM. Bands from the south and London, as well as bands from the north of the country all, began to gain notice. It was a great time to be in a heavy rock and metal band. There were many venues and many fans who wanted great music.
MiM: What happened to Prowler in all these years?
PR: Prowler disbanded in 1982 and went separate ways, still performing or doing session work, recording, etc for other band's projects. The band members always remained friends and always looked to restart at some point. It was only a matter of time and having the opportunity.
MiM: “Reactivate” (Cherry Red Records, 2022) is an excellent gift for all lovers of Heavy Metal. How were the recording and production process?
PR: Most of the tracks on “Reactivate” were recorded in 1980 – 81. Some were recorded with legendary producer Chris Tsangarides, others were live recordings, Two tracks were recorded more recently in the bands' history as commemorative recordings, like “Heavy Metal Hero”. The band always enjoyed studio work, though it was on stage that the best times were had. Chris Tsangarides was a huge influence on a lot of us. It was a true loss when he passed away.
MiM: What are the plans to enter the complicated world of music?
PR: There are some options and considerations for the band going forward. The most important thing for us would be to release “Reactivate” on vinyl. Then, its the second album to follow up “Reactivate”. We have so much interest around the world for a 2nd album. So those are the priorities. Live shows will probably be next year. Work has already started on the 2nd album.
MiM: "Gotta Get Back To You" (1980) is a gem. How did the idea of including these songs that were part of “Brute Force” come about?
PR: Thank you. The idea for the lead break came from a Jon Lord keyboard solo on “Live in Europe”. We had the chance to reissue “GGBTY” with a cleaner version on digital, that’s all. That is the original version from "Brute Force", which is a great album; so many great bands on there. We were privileged to have been invited onto that album.
MiM: How did the idea of including the songs "Rocksong Part II / Heavy" (Live 1980) and "Samurai" (Live 1981) of the band playing live come about?
PR: We had those tracks with us on quarter-inch reel to reel. They just had to be on the album, we felt, to show the band in a live environment, at our strongest. We have two other live tracks from back then that could appear on a second album. “Samurai” is a classic to us, a track that really made you work when performing it live. Definitely a crowd favorite!
MiM: The last two songs included on the album were recorded by the band when they were called “Samurai•. Excellent idea!! Tell me about the reason for the decision.
PR: That’s a long story but it was put to us in the studio in 1980 that a name change may be a good move. We didn’t really want to but the suggestion came from another record company, Bronze Records (Motorheads record company), so we did, reluctantly. We thought of the name Samurai in fifteen minutes over a coffee break in the studio with Chris Tsangarides. We used the name change from the beginning of 1981 until the end of that year, then we changed back to Prowler.
MiM: How would you describe a Prowler live show?
PR: FULL TILT HEAVY ROCK!!!!!
MiM: Normally when you release a new album, the normal thing afterward is to go on tour. What plans do you have to promote this album?
PR: Due to our other commitments live work will be considered for 2023. A second album will be out by then so we can promote all the material, not just the older songs, as good as they are.
