"La música siempre ha sido un vehículo para comunicar emociones"
A4O4A es un esfuerzo de colaboración entre varios músicos en la escena musical europea de Heavy Metal con la única intención de recaudar fondos para donar a los esfuerzos de ayuda internacional. El grupo acaba de lanzar sus dos primeros sencillos "Fight With Pride" y "United We Are Strong" a través de Massacre Records. Made In Metal se reunió recientemente con el productor del proyecto, el exguitarrista de Five Finger Death Punch, Caleb Bingham, para que nos diera más detalles sobre este proyecto.
MiM - Hola Caleb, mi nombre es Raúl Cardona y es un privilegio hablar contigo.
A - ¡El privilegio es mío!
MiM - ¿Cómo surge la idea de crear este excelente proyecto?
R - Se me acercó un par de músicos de metal de Alemania que conocía y que tenían la idea de crear un proyecto de recaudación de fondos para los esfuerzos de socorro en casos de desastre por las inundaciones masivas que habían ocurrido recientemente en ese país. Me preguntaron si estaría interesado en producir el proyecto además de contribuir con algunas guitarras y voces. me ha gustado mucho la idea...
Sin embargo, durante el proceso de escribir el primer sencillo, más y más desastres similares a lo que sucedió en Alemania comenzaron a desarrollarse semana tras semana, y luego estalló también la guerra en Ucrania. Decidimos que había demasiado caos en el mundo como para centrarnos solo en un desastre y, como resultado, escribimos dos canciones, la primera de las cuales se lanzó como “Fight With Pride”.
MiM - "Fight With Pride" es una canción que llama a la conciencia ya la lucha. ¿Crees que a través de la música sería posible concienciar a la humanidad?R – La música siempre ha sido un vehículo para comunicar emociones, conceptos e ideas a las masas y probablemente siempre lo será. Aparentemente, es una de las pocas cosas que quedan en el mundo de hoy detrás de la cual las personas de todas las naciones, razas, religiones y estilos de vida pueden realmente unirse y, por lo tanto, es un arma muy poderosa para esgrimir contra la ideología falsa y defectuosa que es perpetuado continuamente por todos los tiranos hambrientos de dinero y poder en todo el mundo...
MiM - Aparte de este tema, ¿habrá algún álbum en mente?
R – En este punto no estamos seguros… Creo que probablemente esperaremos y veremos cómo es la respuesta de los dos primeros sencillos antes de que podamos determinar si escribiremos más o no. De cualquier manera, parece probable que no nos faltarán desastres (ya sean naturales o provocados por el hombre) de los cuales extraer inspiración lírica en el futuro, si así lo elegimos. ¡Ja ja!
MiM - ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación y producción de la canción con tantos artistas invitados? ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de trabajar con David Readman, Marta Gabriel y Oliver Hartmann?
R - ¡Excelente y muy gratificante, pero también requiere mucho tiempo, por decir lo menos! Cuando tienes casi 20 músicos contribuyendo a solo un par de canciones, se vuelve exponencialmente más tedioso no solo coordinar logísticamente la grabación de las pistas de todos, sino también tener tantas voces y cadenas vocales adicionales y sonoramente diferentes para editar y mezclar una vez que todos hayan terminado. en comparación con su canción "estándar" con un solo cantante. Sin mencionar que hubo tantos grandes cantantes involucrados que también fue muy difícil decidir cómo dividir las pistas que todos enviaron entre las secciones disponibles de cada canción... ¡Creo que es un buen problema!
MiM - Caleb me cuenta sobre tu trabajo como productor este año.
R – ¡Contra todo pronóstico, ocupado! Como todos los lectores probablemente ya saben, la pandemia de Covid-19 prácticamente destruyó la industria de la música, lo que a su vez me obligó a poner mi propia música con Athanasia en un segundo plano. Dicho esto, en retrospectiva, estoy más que contento de haberme interesado en el funcionamiento interno de la ingeniería de audio a una edad muy temprana, ya que me ha proporcionado un medio estable de supervivencia durante todo este lío de Covid y me ha permitido colaborar con tantos músicos fantásticos de todo el mundo en el proceso...
También es maravilloso que tantas bandas y músicos quisieran continuar escribiendo y grabando música a pesar de no poder tocar nada durante varios años y estoy más que agradecido con todos ellos que me han confiado para ayudarlos a obtener los sonidos. sus cabezas a través de un par de parlantes y en los tímpanos de todos.
MiM - ¿Próximos proyectos que tienes para el próximo año?
R - A lo largo de la pandemia, he estado ayudando a armar un nuevo estudio de grabación muy apropiado llamado Warehouse 37, que debería estar en pleno apogeo el próximo año. De lo contrario, estoy bastante bien reservado con el trabajo de grabación, mezcla y sesión para el primer trimestre del próximo año, y estoy ansioso por mantener el impulso a partir de ahí. Made In Metal recently sat down with the project’s producer, ex-Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Caleb Bingham, to find out everything about this project.
MiM - Hello Caleb, my name is Raul Cardona and it is a privilege to talk with you.
A - The privilege is mine!
MiM - How did the idea of creating this excellent project come about?
A - I was approached by a couple of metal musicians from Germany I knew who had the idea of creating a fundraiser project for disaster relief efforts for the massive flooding that had recently happened in that country. They asked me if I would be interested in producing the project as well as contributing some guitar and vocals. I was very keen on the idea...
However, during the process of writing the first single more and more disasters similar to what happened in Germany began to unfold week after week, and then the war in Ukraine broke out as well. We decided that there was too much chaos happening in the world to only focus on one disaster and as a result wrote two songs instead, the first of which has been released is “Fight With Pride.”
MiM - "Fight With Pride" is a song that calls for awareness and struggle. Do you think that through music it would be possible to make humanity aware?A – Music has always been a vehicle for communicating emotions, concepts, and ideas to the masses and probably always will be. It is seemingly one of the few remaining things left in the world today that people from all nations, races, religions, and walks of life can actually unite behind, and thus it is a very powerful weapon to wield against the false, flawed ideology that is continually being perpetuated by all of the money and power-hungry tyrants around the globe…
MiM - Apart from this topic, will there be any album in mind?
A – At this point, we’re not sure… I think we’ll probably wait and see what the response is like from the first two singles before we can determine if we’ll write more or not. Either way, it seems likely that we’ll have no lack of disasters (be they natural or man-made) from which to draw lyrical inspiration in the future should we so choose. Haha!
MiM - How was the process of recording and producing the song with so many guest artists? How was the experience of working with David Readman, Marta Gabriel and Oliver Hartmann?
A – Excellent and very rewarding but also time-consuming to say the least! When you have nearly 20 musicians contributing to only a pair of songs it becomes exponentially more tedious to not only logistically coordinate the recording of everyone’s tracks, but then have so many additional and sonically different voices and vocal chains to edit and mix once everyone is done when compared to your “standard” song with only one singer. Not to mention that there were so many great singers involved that it was also very difficult to decide how to divide up the tracks that everyone sent between the available sections of each song… It’s a good problem to have though I think!
MiM - Caleb tells me about your work as a producer this year.
A – Against all odds, busy! As everyone reading is likely well aware of by now, the Covid-19 pandemic pretty much destroyed the music industry, which in turn forced me to more or less put my own music with Athanasia on the back burner. With that being said, in hindsight, I am so beyond glad that I took an interest in the inner workings of audio engineering at a very young age as it has provided me with a stable means of survival throughout this whole Covid mess and has allowed me to collaborate with so many fantastic musicians from all over the world in the process...
It’s also wonderful that so many bands and musicians wanted to continue to write and record music despite not being able to perform any of it for several years. I’m beyond grateful to all of them who have entrusted me with helping them get the sounds in their heads out through a pair of speakers and into everyone’s eardrums.
MiM - Upcoming projects you have for next year?
A - Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been helping to put together a very proper new recording studio called Warehouse 37, which should be in full swing in the coming year. Otherwise, I’m fairly well booked up with recording, mixing, and session work in the first quarter of next year, and keen to keep the forward momentum going from there. And who knows, if the sun, moon, stars, and planets all align perhaps some new Athanasia material could be on the horizon as well… Time will tell!
