La banda sueca de Heavy Metal Screamer lanzará su nuevo álbum "Kingmaker" el 13 de enero a través del prestigioso sello discográfico Steamhammer/SPV. Excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con su batería Henrik Petersson.

MiM: El próximo año será el décimo aniversario del lanzamiento del álbum "Phoenix", lanzado en 2013. ¿Has pensado en alguna forma de celebrar este aniversario?

SC: ¡Dios mío, el tiempo vuela cuando estás pasando el mejor momento de tu vida! Todavía no hemos decidido si vamos a hacer algo especial sobre el aniversario, aparte de quizás incluir una segunda canción de ese álbum en la lista de canciones para el próximo año. El hecho divertido es que la canción principal "Phoenix" apareció en uno de los videos de patinetas de Thrasher Magazines a principios de 2022.

MiM: “Kingmaker” (Steamhammer/SPV, 2023) es un álbum con un sonido limpio. Exquisita producción musical. Puro Heavy Metal de la vieja escuela. ¿Quién fue su productor?

SC: Cuando tuvimos un montón de canciones de demostración listas, fuimos a Top Floor Studios en Gotemburgo para una sesión de preproducción con Jakob Herrman. Aprendimos mucho de ir a un productor de alto nivel como él y también grabamos la batería en el mismo estudio. Dejan grabó casi todo lo demás en Hell Machine Studios, nuestro propio estudio de grabación. Apuntamos alto con esta producción y contratamos a Henrik Udd (Hammerfall, Powerwolf, etc.) para hacer la mezcla y la masterización. Estamos muy contentos con el resultado ya que nuestro enfoque principal desde el principio fue no comprometer nada en nuestra visión del álbum.

MiM: En ocasiones en "Kingmaker" los solos gemelos de guitarra me recuerdan a Iron Maiden. Me gustaria saber si desde un principio ya tuvieron muy claro el sonido que tendria la banda?

SC: Es obvio que estamos influenciados por los grandes titanes del heavy metal del pasado, pero también estamos influenciados por mucho trabajo de guitarra y armonías de muchas bandas suecas más nuevas. Creemos que hemos tallado nuestro propio sonido a partir de nuestras influencias de los primeros días, hasta donde estamos hoy.

MiM: Screamer es claramente una banda con un futuro por delante. La profesionalidad y el enfoque de la banda están más que latentes. ¿Dónde te ves en cinco años?

SC: En cinco años espero que tengamos otros dos álbumes, cientos de shows en vivo más y ¡espero que sigamos tan hambrientos como hoy!

MiM: Escuchando el álbum siento una conexión entre todas las canciones. ¿Es "Kingmaker" un álbum conceptual? ¿De qué tratan las canciones, líricamente hablando?

SC: “Kingmaker” de hecho no es un álbum conceptual abierto, pero hay un pensamiento detrás de la lista de canciones y si un oyente quiere conectar los puntos, tal vez debería ser posible. Ja ja. Generalmente tenemos letras sobre los buenos momentos en el camino, letras para sentirse bien y todo eso. Tal vez haya un poco más de comentarios sociopolíticos en, por ejemplo, "Hellfire", "Ashes and Fire" y "Fall Of A Common Man" que los que hemos tenido antes.

MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum?

SC: Nos embarcaremos en nuestra gira europea más real en abril, seguida de algunos festivales europeos en el verano. Para el otoño estamos planeando regresar a América del Norte.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que se sintieran libres de compartir algunas palabras con sus fans y nuestros lectores.

SC: Esperamos que disfruten lo que presentamos para todos ustedes en "Kingmaker", ¡nos vemos a todos ustedes Demon Riders en el camino!

The Swedish Heavy Metal band Screamer will release their new album "Kingmaker" on January 13 via the prestigious Steamhammer/SPV record label. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with the band.

MiM: Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the release of the album "Phoenix", released in 2013. Have you thought of any way to celebrate this anniversary?

SC: Oh my, time sure flies when you’re having the time of your life! We haven’t really decided whether or not we’re going to do something special about the anniversary yet, other than perhaps including a second song from that album in the setlist for the upcoming year. A fun fact is that the title track “Phoenix” was actually featured in one of Thrasher Magazines skateboard videos earlier in 2022.

MiM: “Kingmaker” (Steamhammer/SPV, 2023) is an album with a clean sound. Exquisite musical production. Pure Heavy Metal old school. Who was your producer?

SC: When we had a bunch of demo songs ready, we went to Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg for a pre-production session with Jakob Herrman. We learnt a lot from going to a high-end producer such as him and also recorded the drums in the same studio. Dejan recorded almost everything else in Hell Machine Studios, our own recording studio. We aimed high with this production and hired Henrik Udd (Hammerfall, Powerwolf etc) to do the mix and master. We are very pleased with the result since our main focus from the start was to not compromise on anything in our vision for the album.

MiM: On occasions in "Kingmaker" the twin guitar solos remind me Iron Maiden. I would like to know if from the beginning they were already very clear about the sound that the band would have?

SC: It’s obvious that we are influenced by the great heavy metal titans from the past, but we are equally influenced by a lot of guitar work and harmonies from a lot of newer Swedish bands as well. We do believe we have carved our own sound out of our early day influences, to where we are today.

MiM: Screamer is clearly a band with a future ahead of them. The band's professionalism and focus are more than latent. Where do you see yourself in five years?

SC: In five years I would expect we have another two albums out, hundreds of more live shows and I hope we are still as hungry as we are today!

MiM: Listening to the album I feel a connection between all the songs. "Kingmaker" is a concept album? What are the songs about, lyrically speaking?

SC: “Kingmaker” is in fact not an outspoken concept album, but there’s a thought behind the track listing and if a listener wants to connect the dots, it should perhaps be possible. Haha. We generally have lyrics about the good times out on the road, feel-good lyrics and all that. Perhaps there’s a bit more social-political commentary going on in for example “Hellfire”, “Ashes and Fire” and “Fall Of A Common Man” than we have had before.

MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album?

SC: We will embark on our European most real tour in April, followed by a few European festivals in the summer. For the fall we are planning to head back to North America.
