"En 2015 queríamos hacer algo rápido, brutal y pegadizo"
La banda sueca de Deathgrind CHILD, con sede en Gotemburgo/Estocolmo, lanzó su álbum debut ‘Meditations In Filth’ el 17 de febrero con EAT Heavy Records. Made in Metal conversó con Albin, el baterista, para conocer algunos detalles de este disco debut.
MiM: “Meditations In Filth” (EAT Heavy Records, 2023) suena oscuro, pesado, cortante y aplastante. Marcando la diferencia en la escena del metal internacional. ¡Espectacular! ¿Dime de qué trata este CD?A: Es increíble escuchar estas amables palabras. Supongo que esta es la razón exacta por la que queríamos hacer este álbum. Cuando Alex y yo (Albin, el baterista) empezamos la banda en 2015, queríamos hacer algo rápido, brutal y pegadizo. Algo que fuera denso y al punto. Child ha sido un proyecto paralelo, lento, pero constante durante varios años, y en ese tiempo hemos perfeccionado cada canción y desechado todo lo que no se sentía bien. Durante la mayoría de los años, solo fuimos Alex y yo, pero en 2018 Joakim, quien fue compañero de banda de Alex en Mr.Death, se unió a la voz y en 2021 Per y Staffan también se unieron. Cuando entramos al estudio hicimos los últimos retoques a todas las canciones juntos como una banda completa.
MiM: "Meditations In Filth" es un disco donde me siento muy influenciado por el Black Metal. Principalmente en la cadencia con la que se componen las canciones. ¿Qué me puedes decir al respecto? ¿Era este sonido algo que ya habían ideado para que fuera así?A: Hmm, eso es interesante. Bueno, los cinco somos grandes consumidores de música de muchos géneros diferentes. El black metal es uno de ellos, pero no específicamente para este álbum. Pero supongo que cuando escuchas mucho metal diferente y haces tu propia música, las influencias seguramente se mostrarán. “Meditations in Filth” es más una salida de mucha música extrema diferente para cada uno de nosotros.
MiM: ¡Joakim Lindström tiene una voz increíble! Fuera del inframundo, áspero y granulado, que impregna el sonido de la banda con una fuerza increíble.A: El resto de nosotros estamos de acuerdo, ¡no podríamos tener una mejor voz para igualar la música!

A: Per es uno de los propietarios de Welfare Sounds (Gotemburgo), por lo que no fue una sorpresa que grabáramos todo allí. Y supongo que Per también actuó como productor, aunque todos tuvimos nuestra opinión en el proceso de grabación. Pero Per es un productor extremadamente experimentado y tiene un sentido innato de lo que suena bien y lo que suena mal, lo que ayudó a agilizar el proceso. También mezcló el disco y la masterización estuvo a cargo de Karl Daniel Lidén.
MiM: ¿Qué planes tienen para promocionar este Álbum? Conciertos o giras programadas en este nuevo año.A: Nuestros planes promocionales no están escritos en piedra. Esta semana seremos uno de los teloneros de Wormrot aquí en Gotemburgo. Pero por el momento no hay gira planeada, podría haberla en el futuro. Pero por ahora tratamos de comunicarnos tanto como podamos a través de las redes sociales y cuando estamos bebiendo cerveza con la gente. Habrá más contenido publicado por nosotros continuamente este año, incluso después del lanzamiento del álbum, así que estén atentos.

R: Bueno, para resumir, si eres fanático del Grindcore, el Death metal, el Black metal o el hardcore, creo que MIF tiene algo para todos. Swedish Deathgrind band CHILD, based in Gothenburg/Stockholm will release their debut album 'Meditations In Filth' on February 17th on EAT Heavy Records. Made in Metal talks with Albin, the drummer, to find out everything about this album.
MiM: 'Meditations In Filth' (EAT Heavy Records, 2023) sounds dark, heavy, cutting, and crushing. Making a difference in the international metal scene. Spectacular! Tell me what this CD is about.A: It’s amazing to hear these kind words. I suppose this is the exact reason why we wanted to make this album. When Alex and I (Albin, the drummer) started the band back in 2015 we wanted to make something fast, brutal, and catchy. Something that is dense and to the point. Child has been a slow but steady side project for a number of years and in that time we’ve sharpened each song and thrown away anything that didn’t feel right. For most years it was just me and Alex, but in 2018 Joakim - who is a previous bandmate with Alex in Mr.Death - joined on vocals, and in 2021 Per and Staffan joined as well. When we entered the studio we made the last finishing touches to all the songs together as a whole band.
MiM: "Meditations In Filth" is an album where I feel very strongly influenced by Black Metal. Mainly in the cadence with which the songs are composed. What can you tell me about it? Was this sound something that they had already devised to be like that?A: Hmm, that’s interesting. Well, all five of us are huge consumers of music from a whole lot of different genres. Black metal is one of them, but not specifically for this album. But I guess that when you listen to a lot of different metal and make your own music the influences are bound to show them. “Meditations in Filth” is more an output of a lot of different extreme music for each one of us.
MiM: Joakim Lindström has an amazing voice!! Out of the underworld, rough and grainy, which impregnates the band's sound with incredible strength. A: The rest of us agree, we couldn’t have a better voice to match the music!
MiM: How was the process of recording, mixing, and mastering the album? Who was in charge of the production? Who was your producer?
A: Per is one of the owners of Welfare Sounds (Gothenburg) and so it was no surprise that we recorded everything there. And I guess Per also acted as producer, even though all of us had their say in the recording process. But Per is an extremely experienced producer and has an innate sense of what sounds good and what sounds bad which helped streamline the process. He also mixed the album and the mastering was done by Karl Daniel Lidén.
MiM: What plans do they have to promote this Album? Concerts or tours scheduled in this new year.A: Our promotional plans are not set in stone. This week we will be one of the opening acts for Wormrot here in Gothenburg. But for the time being there is no tour planned, there might be in the future. But for now, we try to reach out as much as we can via social media and when we’re out and about drinking beer with people. There will be more content put out by us continuously this year even after the album drop, so keep an eye open.
