English Version

MiM: El título "The Future Is Now" suena a una declaración de intenciones.

¿Qué aprendieron de esa experiencia que aplicaron a The Future Is Now?

MiM: Has tocado junto a figuras de la talla de Deniz Tek, The Morlocks y Jim Jones All Stars.

MD: Buena pregunta.

English Version

MadDogs 1 Claudia Melchiorri 2025 2

On September 5th, under the banner of Go Down Records, Mad Dogs plug in their guitars, turn up the volume, and unleash The Future Is Now upon the world: eleven high-voltage bursts of music that give no respite. It's their third full-length manifesto, a cocktail of garage rock, action rock, and proto-punk that erupts with the ferocity of a point-blank live performance and the conviction of someone who lives for rock and roll. The cover, a "cosmic valve" that nods to retrofuturism and 60s pulp art, warns that there's no room for passivity inside: this is lived at full volume. Seasoned alongside legends and with influences that range from Detroit to Sweden and Australia, Mad Dogs release a work that asks no permission and forgives no one. For them, and for anyone who dares to follow them, the future is not a distant horizon. The future is now. This is an excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk to the band to learn all about this new album.

MiM: How did the idea of combining garage rock, action rock, and proto-punk on this album come about, and what were you trying to convey with that mix?

MD: This stylistic mix of garage rock, action rock, and proto-punk, which we could lump together under the umbrella of rock 'n' roll, has always been our defining trait. It stems from our musical influences and intertwines with the energy we want to convey. With this album, we've tried to further refine these influences, make them our own, and, above all, center them within the album's mood.

MiM: The title "The Future Is Now" sounds like a statement of purpose. What message did you want listeners to take away from it?

MD: Yes, exactly, “The Future Is Now” is an intention, an invitation to leave nothing behind, to take life in bites, aware that only we ourselves can choose who we truly are.

MiM: What was the process of selecting and composing the eleven tracks?

MD: We worked hard in the rehearsal room! We tried to evolve the sound and songwriting of our previous album, "We Are Ready To Testify," to a higher level, more aware, more mature, and more focused. Throughout all this playing together and sharing a shared experience over the years has certainly helped us in this creative process and artistic growth. We were very self-critical; we wrote many songs, several of which weren't recorded because we weren't entirely convinced. In the end, we recorded 13 songs, 11 of which became "The Future Is Now."

Mad Dogs CD COVER 8MiM: The cover shows a "cosmic valve" with a retro-futuristic aesthetic and pulp art. How do that image and the album's sound connect?

MD: The propulsion of the "space valve" depicted in the artwork, halfway between retrofuturism and '60s pulp art, is intended to describe the explosive sound and unleashing energy of this new work. Our graphic designer, Bangalore Studios, has done a magnificent job in this context.

MiM: Were there any production or mixing decisions that were key to achieving the power you were looking for?

MD: Yes, our sound engineer Daniel Grego of Mal De Testa Recording Studio definitely played a key role in the production, recording, and mixing stages. We'd already worked with him on our previous album, and having an engineer who knew the band and could help us with a different perspective than ours definitely helped us achieve a better result.

MiM: From Ass Shakin' Dirty Rollers to today, how would you describe the evolution of your sound and your identity as a band?

MD: "Ass Shakin' Dirty Rollers" is definitely harsher; it was written and recorded in a very short time. It captured that moment in the band's life, its urgency, and laid the foundation for this musical project. Having a shared vision allowed us to play a lot and experience a lot together, which helped us become more aware, more of a group. By the time we made "We Are Ready To Testify," we were already more convinced of what our music should be. Continuing to play, traveling miles, listening to concerts, engaging with other musicians, and challenging ourselves helped us grow as a band and as individuals. The least common denominator for this project, however, is rock 'n' roll.

MiM: That album incorporated elements of the 60s and 70s. What did you learn from that experience that you applied to The Future Is Now?

MD: We understood that our music had to start from that direction; we needed to be more aware to make it blossom. As in life, in music too, you have to be determined and convinced of what you want to do; it's the main route to being incisive. And then music is empathy, so beyond style, there's emotion; you can't control that; you have to feel it.

MiM: You've played alongside figures of the caliber of Deniz Tek, The Morlocks, and Jim Jones All Stars. Which of those experiences left the greatest mark on you?

MD: Having the pleasure and honor of playing with bigger bands is always wonderful. Each of these experiences has given us so much, both personally and artistically. Deniz Tek is a master of the guitar, the Morlocks are the godfathers of garage rock, and Jim Jones is a true force of nature!

MiM: You've mentioned influences ranging from Detroit to Sweden and Australia. What do you draw from each scene to enrich your music?

MD: Certainly the attitude, the search for sound and all the cultural and musical baggage that those movements brought in the past but also today.

MiM: After such a powerful manifesto as The Future Is Now, where do you see the next stage of Mad Dogs heading?

MD: That's a good question. We'll definitely be constantly evolving. We'll see what this album brings us, even in terms of our experiences. We'll try to push ourselves even further while staying true to ourselves. Next year marks the band's tenth anniversary, so maybe we'll pull out a few surprises for the occasion!

MiM: Typically, when you release a new album, touring is the next step. What plans do you have to promote this album?

MD: Sure! We'll start promoting the album live in September. We're working on an intense tour in Italy, but we already have dates in the UK and are working on a European tour. We've already established contacts in Spain, Sweden, and beyond. In short, we set no limits. Follow us on our social media channels to stay up to date on our concerts.

MiM: Finally, I wanted you to feel free to share a few words with your fans and our readers.

MD: Thank you so much for this wonderful chat! We hope to see you soon. To all our friends who read this, I'd say never stop chasing your dreams; they remain the path to true freedom! And don’t forget to rock 'n' roll!
